Thumbs up Melb Social - Success!

The Melbourne social day was a held today and had a great turn out with fare more boats than expected showing up.

Nine boats showed up with 23 people fishing for the day. The river was fairly shut down and the tides were less than ideal but still everyone pushed on and brought in add least a few fish to weigh in.

I would like to thank all the guys that showed up and had a crack. It was good to meet everyone and put names to faces
I had a great time and I hope everyone else did.

Ill be organising a few more days like this again soon. I want to get a few land based socials going for the guys that don’t have boats and a few boat based days to.

I’m open for idea's on the next location to meet and any other idea's that’s going to improve these days to so I would appreciate any feedback from you all.

I didn’t get to take many photo's but heres a few that I did manage. Anyone else that managed to get some please put them up for everyone to see.

Thanks guys! im looking forward to meeting up again.

cheers, Nathan

Well done Nath... Good job there. I was busting to try and make the weigh in but was held back by chores I absolutely hate doing.

With all the attention that the nong has had in the past few months, I'm pretty sure the yarra is due for a decent bash again. With new found HB techniques (maybe newer for some of us than others), I'm sure we'd do pretty well in the yarra. Only thing about the yarra is the parking difficulty around the CBD. Maybe that's the next location for another gathering.

Congratulations Nath on organising such a successful event, and well done to all those who fished it and made it a great day.

Thanks for the day Nath. Although there wasn't many fish taken it was still a top day. Maybe the Patterson Lakes next time Nath ( if you can find it ). Thanks to those who showed up. It was good to meet a few of you's.

I'd love to explore Patterson Lakes but it almost strictly is boat only for any form of success. Also the most productive place in the whole area is closed to fishing ie. inside the marina. You might be able to contact the Marina management and request special permission for the comp participants to be allowed in the marina for a fish. One of the main reasons they disallowed fishermen in there is because fishermen have this habit (certainly not you or me?!) of throwing their rubbish eg. bait plastic bags, lines tangled up on yacht props etc. where they fish. If you can convince themarina that this is catch and release lure only and all responsible fisherfolk (unlike the other yahoos out there), you might gettheir approval for a fish in there and if they give their approval, GRAB IT! There are some monsters in there that has not seen a lure before!

chung mate, not trying to start a sh!t fight but the first gate has a huge expanse of fishing area with plenty of structure and plenty of fish, the fishing in the first gate is probably the best, also the river and 3rd gate can produce at certain times, i reckon it would be seriously worth considering for a comp/social day sometime, jmo.

I was into Halo 2 for a while too. I actually queued up at the midnight release, was a zombie at work the day after that. I sort of gave it up now. You learn that as the age goes up, the hand-eye coordination and reflex goes down and you get your butt kicked by 9 year olds... Rather be fishing...
