Swan Fish Kill

Well, we all warned them. Just got a call from Mullet and the rains have brought through another fish kill. From what he said, there are hundreds as well as mulloway, mullet and blowies.

Here we go again.

Algae Activity Report 2005
Week - 8th April 2005

Algal densities were low to medium in the Canning River and medium to in high the Swan River this week.

The Swan River Trust is continuing to monitor the Karlodinium algal bloom that is still present in the Upper Swan River.

Anyone who sees any dead or sluggish fish is reminded to contact the Trust.

dead fish at ascott

went to ascott tonight and there were hundreds of dead fish, including mulloway some over a metre long. Is this a new kill or the same one do you think?

I heard the same from Mullet again this morning. He was also saying there were a lot of bigger ones today as well. I've called Kurt who's getting in touch with Frank Prokop, this is being played down way too much.

i couldnt belive that they said about 70 dead fish its like they are trying to hide some thing this is going to depleat the fish stocks for years now
about 3 months ago freo tafe had about 1 thousand fingerlings they destroyed because a survey was done saying that no more bream where needed in the river now we loose at least that many i dont understand

70!!!!! no way

Did someone post that the trust are claiming there were only seventy dead fish.

I honestly saw more than a hundred, and that was at night in the dark with a little flashlight to see with.

Must be ten times that amount

Just a thought guys, instead of worrying about the algae killing the fish, can't we help them survive at least? Can't the guys with boats put them in their livewells and take them for a ride and drop them somewhere else away from the algae? And bring a non-boater too so you catch more Even if we have to drop them into the lakes or whatever. There are lakes around with these fish in them anyway.

Would that help I wonder?
