12lb Vanish

Just reading up on leader to add to my 6lb fireline, I thought 12lb vanish as that is twice the nominal strain of the fireline. However I notice most people seem to use 6 or 8 lb leeder. Is 12 lb to big for what i am trying to achieve. Mostly shorebased fishing in the Swan.

Thanks

Trevor

Copy of my reply to this Q in the other forum (impulse/folly)

That leader would be fine for some situations, and less than optimum in others. If you are fishing around snags, rocks, piles, etc than 12 lb is probably a good choice, but for a cleaner environment it is too heavy. you really need a range from very light for fussy fish in clear water (1 or 2 kg) up to as high as 10 kg in situations like oyster racks where you are going to get dragged over and around sharp edges, etc.

May be a good starter kit would be 4 lb, 8 lb, 12lb.
Add to that as situations indicate.
