Have any of you had any experience with this reel
(Pflueger solara 5725)? It was $140. It has 7 ball bearings, hardly any plastic and it's LIGHT as. I already bought it but dunno what you experienced guys think. It also has a nice smooth drag. Good for bream or what? Thanks heaps guys. ![]() Heres a link- http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/produ...lara-reel.html

Well I'm not what you'd call one of the sites experienced anglers, but I too bought one and have so far been happy with its performance.
Pflueger have been around a long time and I reckon they know what they are doing with reels. You can't go far wrong with it mate. Gaff

Thanks gaffer. Has it handled the bigger bream easy enough?
Also, do you reckon it would suit a 7' Daiwa procaster Z? My local tacklo doesn't have any at the moment. Thanks heaps

reels
Pflueger reels are becoming very popular in the Bass Pro comps here in the States. A good friend of mine has three of the size you bought and fishes them for panfish with 4lb mono. He is very happy with them. There top of the line reel the President is very nice indeed. Just so you know this is not the old pflueger Company. Shakespeare bought the rights to the name and uses it as there higher end comapny. They sell products under both names. Ok stuff but closer to Quantum then Shimano or Daiwa in quality. Just my humble opinion.

Yes that is very common in the US tackle market. Quantum came about because no high dollar fisherman would ever buy a Zebco reel for $140.00 because they make little kid reels, ( the famous zebco 33 push button). The designs are from the same engineers and the reels are built in the same factory. We have a thing about prestige over here that I some time have trouble grasping. I may be wrong but I don't believe they have Lexus, Infiniti and Acura in Japan..........Just Nissan, Toyota, and Honda. Higher end models that cost more but same name. In the US people have to always have better then their neighbor. I buy alot of high end tackle and my boat is at the higher end of the market but that is becuase of quality and resale value. Not because of a name. One of the better rod comapnies for lower priced, high end rods ( if that makes any sense ) was a company called AllStar. Well shakespeare bought them out too. They knew people wouldn't pay$150.00 for a Ugly Stick. Thats the US tackle market

Ok well I've got to admit that I stumbled into a sale at my local tackle store and picked the reel up at 50% off
I couldn't believe it. They were doing a big promo on pflueger and I decided I'd give it a go. I haven't actually pulled a bream on it as it doesn't yet make part of my bream set up, but it will finish up on one of my bream rods as my collection increases for sure. It has handled some big carp in the river murray and some nice warehou to a kg on a very light rod. I'm not unhappy with it. You get what you pay for mate. A $140 reel is exactly that. Much better than a $30 reel and not as good as a $400 reel. It will serve you well. Gaff
