wow that sounds great, i reckon a good size would be 60 odd litres, an over-flow pipe sits a fifth of the way from the top and should drain directly over board,im not sur about the pump but i reckon the bilge would be ok,hth

water should b completely replaced at least 20 times per hour according to an article on this site http://www.fishing-boating.com/articles/walker.htm

if u went with a 60 litre tank, that'd mean that the pump would have to have a minimum capacity of

(60lt#20)/4.546 = 263gph

cheesr dave, i willl look into that but i wasn;t planning to change the water 20 times a hour! well i might buy a big asss pump so i can change the water really quickly because i have to have something electrical in this so i have made up a timing circuit board hat will turn the pump on when i saw and turn off to then repeat the cycle.

My live well is 120L. A live well timer would be one of the best investments you can make.

I have mine set to run for 30sec every 5 mins. The fish are very lively when released

awsome thanks mate, i just went down and ordered all the pumps fittins etc, got a 32l/m pump to pump into the live well with air rater sprayer and all sorts and a 31.5l/m bildge pump to pump the water out of the hull at the end of the day, also some elbows and some flush exits for the water to go through the hull. either i am goin to run 3 pipe over the back or put buildge outlet over the back and the tank inlet over the back and tank over flow thru the hull. still toying with ideas how to do it. it will get there eventually.

cheers greg

oh jethro what size pump is yours?

does the lid of the live well need to be air tight/water tight?

thanks greg

Greg,

My boat has a 60L well with a 500 gallon per hour pump. When you have to suck water up and pump water up, this rate will decrease. You will also lose pumping power with different types of pipe and sharp bends etc but this will be fairly minimal as long as the pipes are not doing sharp turns. Its fairly complex to work it out but i can do it for you if you want to go all out. I dont think anybody has ever worried so go for a slightly bigger pump and you will have no worries. Mine is from BLA and its an atwood.

I have it on a manual switch and can leave it running for as long as i want. I will have in on for 5 minutes at a time every half an hour or so.

thanks brad, i think its an atwood too, and 500gallons per minute too so its probly the same i guess

i am goin to wire so i can either have it on or off and also running through the circuit board so it will automaticaly come on every so often.

is it really important to have a tight sealing lid?

thanks greg

It stops splashes etc but im yet to see one that is air tight, you need air in there to let water drain out the standpipe or you will create one big pressurised chamber.

Mine has a foam edging and when i have fish in there i close the lid lightly and dont latch it.
