ride advice

G'day guy's & girls i'm looking for some idea's on keeping the nose of my tub down it's a 435 hornet, problem is only between about 5 & 10 knots i can't see i was thinking of shifting my fuel tanks up under the bow 24lt. ea. although i'm led to believe that won't help, can't just try it as boat will require mod's to make it happen ! any thoughts greatfully accepted take it easy

yeh tried that made little difference in the required speed range thanks anyway. i've spoken to a mate he's suggested electric trim tabs on the transom , has anyone had anything to do with these ? as i thought they were only for ski boats and probably a bit pricey! thanks again take it easy

Hey Butcheri, I had a Clarke abalone that did the same thing, it didnt help that I had a 40 on a 4.1m boat , but it still tried to tip me out no matter what I tried WITHOUT getting a hydrofoil. I found my dinghy was O.K with someone else in the front, but I often go solo, so I went for the foil. My new tub is a Hornet 435. I put the 40 straight on (didnt take the foil off) and its brilliant. Admittedly it takes a few knots off the top end, but I'm barely touching the water as it is when theres a few lumps around. I went for the SE Sport, I can recommend it, hope this helps. Cheers.Craigio.

if u were still thinking of moveing the fuel tanks, you could probably put sand bags up the frount where the tanks would go to see if it would work.

But I would think that a hudro foil would be your best bet, u could also try a 4 blade prop

Had the same problem with my 435 Topender 50 hp, when I was one out, couldn't see a thing at low speed.
Put a set of hydrofoils on and never looked back!! Should have tried it sooner. Planes perfectly now at low speed.

Wouldn't mess around with moving the fuel tanks (IMHO) it will change your balance when at rest and with cargo/passengers, nothing worse than trying to troll bow heavy.

Like Peter said, go the permatrim. I know quite a few guys and gals using them. Everyone who owns one raves about them, even people who were happy with there boats love the improvement the Permatrims give.
My first order of business next year is to slap one on the 80.

Unfortunately it's a bit of a problem with Quintrex hulls. That's one of the reasons for the Maxi transom on the higher models. The transom extensions stop the hull from sitting high.

Foils are your best bet without doing something drastic.
