Tennis handle wraps

I was watching that afc bass comp the other week and one of the anglers had the rod handle wrapped with the stuff they wrap around tennis raquet handles

Has anyone tried it. I wouldnt mind having a thicker rod grip and it would help with those sweaty palms down here in tropical Victoria.

I was looking at everyones combo's at the docklands weigh-in for the AFC and they all had the rod wraps(must have been some spnsership thing?!). They made the rods look ugly but they would be hell comfy to use.

check out this link for some details.

The only draw back on these things is that once you take them off your cork is all tacky and looks dodgy.

cheers, Nathan

I remember Ian Miller used to make game rods like 15-24kg jobs with a tennis raquet style grip.

They looked really nice.

I spose you could expect a dampening effect with the wrap but I'm going to give it a crack

Possibly - now you scared everyone off

These things looked pretty well sealed so you wouldnt think they would be letting any water in.

cheers, Nathan

Sorry mate - bad choice of words on my part - I was refering to the loss of feel by putting the cushion wrap over the cork.

Not sure if the ones on that site are cushioned but the tennis ones I'm getting tommorrow will be

Oh LoL now I get you. All the manufacturers reckon it "enhances feel" but I’m a bit iffy about that to.

Ah well you will have to give us the low-down after you try them.

cheers, Nathan

Hi all,

I have a mate that use to tournament cast on the mainland.

He uses tennis rap on his baitcaster. Spose it just makes it possible to cast heaps without hurting your hands (blisters) and has a better grip.

It makes your rod look OOOOOGLY though! I went to that link that Nath put up and it looks like "MUMMY RETURNS WITH FISHING ROD!"

quote "RodWrap is not a tape and leaves no sticky residue on the rod handle. RodWrap simply wraps over itself to form a protective non-slip bond with the rod handle. " /unquote

hmmm interesting
i also think that it will take away feel.

Tennis wraps don't have glue either. They hold down by friction. I wrap my own tennis rackets so I know.
if you'd wanted a more cushiony feel why go the cork way anyway? Hypalon grips (black foam) are more cushiony and softer but we like the feel of cork that's why we pay big money for them cork grips and now we want to wrap cushion on it?
