A few ?

lm puting a floor in a 4.0m Sea Hunter V bottom that l recently bought second hand off Yogi here.
My query is , lm about to have a livewell made to suit the floor just before the V section and was wondering if this is a bad idea due to water being behind the anchor well, is it likely to adversly effect its handling and should it be fitted directly behind the first tharwt seat , would rather the set up in front of the tharwt seat as this is the easier of the two to install. The livewell itself can only be 800mm in length, 400mm in width and 260mm in depth.(internal depth 240mm overflow)
Water surface is the key but do u think the 240 depth is too shallow. All in all the well will hold 90 litres 45 in each side of divider . l know this is asked all the time but what in the mininum well size again for tournament fishing.
Keeping on the livewell theme what size bilge pump do l need to run this sucker as l intend to have it atuomatic cycling.l want one for the boat as well in case of emergency.
Now for the final ? what glue is best for laying my marine carpet lve used 18mm formwork ply for all my decks so the are pretty safe and can easily be replaced over time if needed as l work in the commercial construction game, but is any carpet glue alright or is there something special l should use.
Well thats it for now all replys will be appreciated as long as you know more than me lol...Cheers guys and gals Steve.M

Hi Steve,
hope you enjoy the fishing in the boat. Excellent time for snags fishing upstream in the swan and canning at this time of the year. Missed it very much.
If I remember correctly, the minimum livewell size for WABream tournaments is 80litres.
Mind posting some pics on the building process? Cheers!

contact adheasive

The best glue that ive found to stick the carpet to the ply is contact adheasive or contact cement. You'll probably need atleast 4lt. There is two types that you can get, one is a gel and the other is just like a standard glue (runny and messy), i recomend the gel over the normal stuff as it is easier to work with espicialy when doing vertical surfaces and wont soak into the carpet as much. ive used a few brands and there doesnt seem to be much difference.

Hi Hooked

Food for thought!

when you say first thawrt seat are you referring to the one near the bow or astern. I suggest that the best weight distribution in a V hull will come with the livewell in the middle or front 1/3 of the boat. As for volume, well 24cm is not very deep especially since most livewells are not filled to the top. 24-26cm is enough for the fish but idealy you'll need another 6-8cm of air above that to prevent excess spillage of water into the boat.

re think l think lol

Thanks madsurf u have stated the obvious it is too shallow now that l think of it way too shallow. l may need to invest in a portable variety for comps . lt was to be in the bow just in front of the thawrt seat but l will now look into something less permanent l guess.
Do they sell these in Perth guys, in the litreage needed any info would be good. l have seen 100 litre eskys used in some boats does this still qualify.

Hi Hooked

you know those big orange eskies cost heaps, as do the blue ones or the fibreglass ones. I don't know the brand names. Anyway quite a few guys use portable livewells that only go in the boat during a comp'. It's quite viable and the best examples I have seen are Tony Ireland's 100L foam box enclosed in ply and David Vircic's twin Coleman esky setup. David got the eskies on special so it worked out real well $ wise. I went for the fibreglass/epoxy twin 52L jobbies and all the hassle could well have been avoided by using a couple of Coleman eskies.

The key point to remember is that the livewell is not transparent or exposed to sunlight. This allows the water to remain cool for longer. Full insulation like a polystyrene foam box or esky is even better.

I hope this helps!

Hooked

here is a pic of my livewell for my super punt i'm building.

I have placed it further back to bcounter me being on the casting deck for steering and fishing with the leccy propulsion.

I see no reason to mount your livewell where ever, just as long as its counter balanmced with weight on the other end of the boat. Most setups of this kind will have them between the twart seats.

The tub is a 62L kookaburra that cost $150 from my supporter.

Have fun fitting it out. I'm just finishing my casting deck tonight and taking it for a spin this weekend.

Hooked,

60 L is for super punts only NOT the PTQ rounds.

It depends on what series you fish.

BIG PETE- your doing Supa Punts's arent you ?

Those eskies are tops and have the benefit of keeping amber liquid cold if your out fishing for other fish and planning on having a feed
