Is there much difference in prices?
G'day fellers
Rang a Quintrex dealer in Sydney a couple of days ago. He wasn't real keen on giving me a price on a hornet trophy as we have Quintrex dealers down here in Tassie. You'd think if you was going to spend that sort of money they'd be keen as mustard. Because they have a monopoly down here, some places charge a fortune thinking that we won't look elsewhere. What I wanted to know is is there much difference in price between the same boating packages in your cities. That little bit of water called bass straight seems to make a big difference in price with the majority of items. With a lot of things it's cheaper for us to buy a car or motorbike on the mainland and then bring it back ourselves. We get a holiday for nothing and come back with a toy and still end up paying less. He was worried about warranties as well saying that the dealer down here wouldn't like covering it but as I said to him, they're the local dealers and are obliged to cover any warranty claims as Quintrex and Yamaha would still pay them for any work done. If anyone has a local dealership near them that would have a good price on a 475 Hornet Trophy with a 60hp Yamaha 4 Stroke, can they PM me please and I'll give them a ring. Cheers fellers Addict |

Addict, i was reading on the BREAM website forums that Tim Morgan has the (475 hornet kitted out for breaming that he won at finals) for sale for $25,000 or about $5000 less than retail....
might be worth checking that out if you are in the market... other than that Millards is great but they are in WA so probably a bit to far for shipping etc. |

I dont know the price of Quintrex's but last week I was in a Stessel dealer and saw a new 475 edgtracker with a 60 hp Susuki 4 stroke, side console, rod locker, live hold tank, etc for $25,000.

C Steel, thanks for that info, the edgetrackers are a nice boat but I've decided on the Quintrex (finally
) Bloody hard decision to make just what brand you're going to get yet alone what mod-cons etc you want Evan, Tim's boat would be ideal I reckon and cheap too but it's probably 6 months too early for me. But for that price, I'd get some extra money out I reckon Couldn't find the BREAM forum you was talking about mate, Anyone have any links?Thankyou Addict |

Evan, thanks for the link mate, will call him when I get back to work
Eddy, It's already got an electric And I think they have to honour warranty's mate, they just DohDohDohDohDoh and moan about it. But I reckon stiff, if they can't look after you like other people do, why bother with them, I'll see how I go anyway. It's like the fishing shops down here in Hobart. They give me 10% off and stuff still costs more than 200km nth in Launceston. I can get stuff from Launie sent down cheaper than I can buy it in town, how does that work . You'd expect stuff to be cheaper on the internet, but not a phone call away in the same state.

I thought cars salesmen were the only bad ones but turns out ever since I started getting prices on boats that marine salespersons are just as bad. I've been getting quotes as high as $24K for a bloody 435 hornet, but as soon as I mention I'm getting quotes from a range of dealers and have been leaning towards an edgetracker the amount of time they have backflipped and said they can do a better deal is ridiculous. Why can't they just give me an honest price and just mark it up a LITTLE bit to allow for bargaining!!!!

Niz, I know where you're coming from mate. Over the next few months I'm going to get prices from a few different dealers with specific prices for extras. Not going to let them say, but such and such probably has a different sounder, electric etc. All you want to do is buy a nice boat for a FAIR price but just like with everything else, there's rogues and rip-off merchants everywhere Bit unfortunate really because I'm the sort of bloke that will rave on about how a place looked after me, gave me a good price and great customer service. Word of mouth is a powerful tool and normally ends up in extra sales for them.Good luck with the 435 Cheers Addict |
