Which loomy??

I've been drooling over some loomis rods lately, but not know which to get......

I'm currently stuck between the DSR 820s and DSR 822s......

Just wanting to know which would be better for SP and why....

Any other suggestions would be more than welcome......

Hattori

I use the DSR820 for breaming and find it to absolutley perfect for the task. I fish with 2kg fireline and even when using jigs as light as 1gm everything that happens at the SP transmits back up the line enabling me detect even the most delicate of takes.

I have both of these rods, they're both superb blanks. I used to use the 820 a fair bit for ultra-light and unweighted plastics around pontoons and marinas, it handled this well.

As I've mentioned before, I get the butts of my Loomis sticks shortened to about 4" as I find them more comfortable to fish with like that. (It doesn't void the expediter warranty)

If I think of it I'll take on tonight.

All I do is get a rod builder to cut the butt off and re-use the old cap on the new end.

I had a good look at a few Loomis rods the other week at my local tackle store. I looked at the drop shots and the 842 both are awesome rods. While I was looking the sales guy pointed me in the direction of a whole bunch of Heartland Z's that just came in and I must say the build quality and feel of the HL-Z's were equal too or if not better than that of Loomis's. When you factor in the price difference of the rods I would pick the HL-Z's anyday of the week. This is just my opinion and I'm sure a whole lot of people will disagree with me.

well i own a drop shot and the thing rules but u should also have a look at the bronzeback models as well it just depends on the type of retrieve u are using at the time i now have three difrent set ups for bream plasticing and depending on what retrieve im using i like difrent rods slow hopping retrieves are good on the dropshot eratic retrieves are better done on a rod with a crisper tip like the procaster z[daiwa] and for pullin bigens from heavy cover i use the bronzeback in a 6-10lb range
difrent horses difrent courses
all depends on weres and hows

Stick to Loomis, Hatori

I don't want to ruffle feathers here Niz, i have owned two of those Heartland's you talk about and the epoxy at the feet of most if not all the guides cracked.
I must say i am not impressed with most rods that come "off the rack" these days, even Loomis rods off the rack don't tickle my fancy.
I believe i know exactly what "i" want in a rod and the only way to get that is to have it built or build it yourself using the component's you want .
I hate the fact that you have to spend $20 to have the butt chopped off your $500 rod.
Loomis are a fine Fishing rod company, their blanks are the best on the market, I would look at Loomis rods that are 6'6in to 7' that handle 1-3 or 2-4 pound line, I am importing blanks for my "OWN" use and building them for "MYSELF".
The drop shot rod will serve you well, i just hate that long bloody handle

Tear the arse out of it Hatori
Regards
Geoff R
