Septon Reel Seats ????

I have 3 Samurai rods, a 101, 201 and a 203 I use as back ups. Haven't used them for quite a while and I noticed the reel seats were starting to go sticky, so I tried giving the worst one a scrub with warm, soapy water. Big mistake...the seat is now visibly pitted and heaps stickier than it was before.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there anything that can be done to fix it, besides rebuilding?
I haven't experienced it but it sounds a lot like the septon, Shimano knobs breaking down.

Yeah the fuji soft touch can go bad.

Maybe Plastidip?

Thats got the rubberised soft touch Fuji seat you must have...

l have been told to use a magic eraser.
My samurai Fuji soft touch reel seats are not sticky as such but the coating is slowly wearing away with use, not acceptable for such an expensive rod imo.

Definitely no sunscreen or Innox anywhere near these rods. S-Factor perhaps on 201 only but that seat isn't too bad.

I'll give the magic eraser a try and if that doesn't work, the plastidip.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Or the complete stripping of the rubber off the grips and application of another grip medium?

Ive used this in the past and wasnt too bad IMHO.

Well, the magic eraser wasn't so magic. The end result was the same as the soapy water, making the seat stickier than it was originally.
I'm thinking the only way to fix these rods properly is a full rebuild.

Wax and grease remover the seat.

My phone rubber case has gone oily also, rubber isnt what it once was.

Everything is just cheap these days and lasts only as long as its price tag it seems...

I appear to have fixed the problem.
A good old metho soaked rag did the trick.
A lot of black junk came off with the first wipe and the seats were just the slightest bit sticky. A second wipe with a clean, soaked rag and they're now good to go. Must have just been some sort of surface coating because the pitting has gone too.

So is the soft touch coating completely off? or still there and cleaned up?

I would say the soft touch has been removed, which doesn't bother me in the slightest. Reel seats are still the same colour but probably a more matt finish than before. The one I scrubbed with hot, soapy water is showing a little silver on the edges. Mainly on the hood that screws down.
I'm pretty busy over the next couple of days, but I'll post some pics when I can. Don't have any before shots but the afters are what's important.

That's exactly how they look.
If I recall, we have the same model Volkeys (692ML/BFS)
