The tale of buying a reel...

G'day everyone.

So got sent up a reel to look over as the owner (on BM) is complaining of a dodgy AR bearing and a "brrrr" associated feel to the wind...

Well in doing so pulling down it seems that whoever he bought it off (here on BM) has either done him a dodgy or done a quick pass on.

Yeh the reel is in smick A1 condition on the outside but when delving deeper you tend to find a more sinister story...

Upon a quick glance you'll find mismatched bearings usually and even further under the main gear a stray washer... Where from beats me? But upon closer inspection has gone through the gears a dozen dozen times or more forcefully...

Anyhow just wanted to bring up the cautious attitude that everyone should adpot when purchasing a reel either off here or on Facey. I saw a post the other day which was pretty damn good on BM imho showing a reel for sale, understanding not everyone can do the same - but everyone should exercise honesty in their sale posts...

Some pictures for attention.

Andrew

Hey mate, bought a reel a few months back with a bent shaft and felt geary, none of which was mentioned to me until the reel rocked up at my door so I can relate. Is there anything that can be done about it to rectify it now slazmo or is it game over for this reel?

Everything can be rectified, however this is damage caused by the previous owner and or whoever serviced it thats affcted this Exist. Honestly piss poor in this case how this washer got left inside the gearbox.

I guess as long as parts exist for said reels as their vintage is certainly against them and parts stocks are forever dwindling due to people using smaller reels for larger fish and or extending service periods far past their norms and thus causing undue wear etc etc...

I only repaired a bannana'd shafted 2010 Certate... happens quiet a bit it seems, people siting on reels or god knows?
