Megatop vs Solid Carbon top

Hi guys,

What is the difference between megatop and solid carbon top?

I come across it when I'm looking at the Gekka AGS 610LS (solid carbon top) and 73LS (megatop) on the Jap website.

Which is more suited for a plastic rod and why?

Thanks
Matthew

They're both the same thing.

Mega top is a solid tip section (Daiwa's little marketing name for solid tip section). The other option is a tubular tip which is what most rods have so the tip section is hollow like the rest of the blank.
I have megatop on a few steez rods and love it for really light fishing applications it casts small weights very well and is really sensitive.

Also worth noting solid tip rods generally have super thin tips and the solid tip section is usually more flexible than tubular tip rods. So even though the tip is thinner because of the flex they are pretty snap resistant my steez amraam tip has been in a few senarios over the years where i thought for sure the tip was going to snap or had snapped but it didn't, nick named mega top "indestructible top"

That's my thought as well.

As the S on the model indicates Solid tip but as far as Daiwa goes it's not the same. Maybe it's a marketing hype like refinfisho said.

Thanks
Matthew
