Fins 40G

Picked up a 150m spool of the (relatively) new Fins 40G from work today. I've never been a fan of Fins braid due to it being thick and ropey, but this stuff looks the goods! It's super (I mean super) thin, smooth as all hell, and a 9 strand braid. I got the 5lb (which actually breaks at just over 20lb) for chasing reddies, yellowbelly, trout, and bream and flathead down on the coast. The 5lb (20lb) has the diameter equivelant of 1lb mono, just 0.102. Any of you guys tried it yet? If so what's your thoughts?

I'll let you know how it goes next time I get out chasing the reddies, hopefully today or tomorrow. My workplace (tackle world bendigo) is selling it for $49.50 for a 150m spool, and $89.50 for a 300m spool. It's not the cheapest, but if it performs as good as I hope, then it'll be worth it. Coincidentally I only have to pay $32 for a 150m spool hehehe

Was going to respool with SAS braid. But they have been unresponsive to emails about their upcoming shipment.

So have just ordered the Fins 40G in 25lb and 45lb for barras.

Fins has always been my line of choice for bait fishing - never liked it for anything to do with lures. But I had a feel of this new 40G in shop the other day, and I am pretty impressed - it feels very very smooth, a bit like the Duel X-wire X8. Pretty expensive though - I think around AUD90 for a 300 m spool? Crazy.

I think the 45lb breaks at nearly 80lb

I think they claims around 61lb.

0.229mm diameter equals about #2 in PE rating.

Well I've had a bit of a chance to use it, and I even decided to have a crack at yellowbelly and small cod with it. I've been dragging it all over rough rocks and timber, and it's as good as new. Not one single nick, cut, or bit of fuzziness anywhere. Damn impressive. Only downside is it cuts through leader lighter than 10lb when tightening, using any knot that I've tried other than the FG.

Complete opposite for me here.

Spooled some 25lb last night. It is very stiff and takes a while to loosen up.

As soon as it even looks at a snag it will fray. Happened to me on two occasions now.

Saw some fluffy stuff as I was reeling in and it was frayed due to a knick. Not even sure where it touched anything. Good thing is that the fraying is very visible and can be seen straight away.

Going to go back to the old string that I use.

Really? It's the most abrasion resistant line I've ever used, and being a 9 strand braid, it should be. The only thing I can think of is you got a bad batch. But at $50 a pop it's not really something you want to get a bad batch of. If I had it wearing like that, I'd be pretty wary about it too. It's going great for me though, I just wish it came in a lighter class than 5lb (20lb). It'd cast so much further if it were a little bit thinner. It's still damn thin for its breaking strain though, so I'm not complaining.
