Heres a question- rods
Why is everyone hell bent on making fast and extra fast rods these days? Really missing something with a nice moderate taper for throwing deep crankbaits on. Truth be told Im actually looking at another bream rod

Agreed, but the higher carbon content in a rod makes for a super fast action. I just opt for a mid ranged rod, they seem to have slower actions. I then (get someone to) add better components to it after. Found that the mid to low ranged rods tend to have more resin in their prepregs, which make for a slower action for better use with crankbaits like you said.

I had the same problem a few months ago. I went with a ecooda black hawk. So hard to find a quality rod with slow/med action. Aus tackle have a slow and fast action in there master class range.

Just for those that don't know - action refers to rod taper, specifically how quickly the rod gets narrower along its length.

There are plenty of high modulus med-slow rods out there. A high resin count doesn't necessarily make for a slower action. The megabass Saratoga, for example, is a very crisp, high modulus rod that still has a very slow taper.

The new Abu Garcia Salty stage 7' 1-3kg is worth a look! I was feeling the same way a couple weeks back, but then I picked up one of these. Great for crankbaits.

You could always try a samurai 203 blank and get a custom build done, or simply buy a 203 factory built. I use one and love its slower action, don't know if there still made but I am sure there are still some floating around out there.

Yes a build might be in order. Im looking for a full grip 6-6'3 short rod for firing hards into structure. Really regretting selling my HLZ Jerkin special all those years ago.

Have a look at the tournament specialist breams from Daiwa. They're a very moderate taper.

I have a Phenix Recon 2 that has a lovely tip.Casts 1/16 - 3/8 loads up like a dream with a great action.
I like faster action's and stiffer tips for plastics and small vibes I feel more connected. |

Is there nothing in the 13 range?
They seem to have a few shorter rods. |

Agreed. And finding suitable blanks that are not overly fast is perhaps even more of a challenge than finding made up rods. Well at least it is in my experience. My suspicion is that the obsession with fast and extra fast tapers is a carry over from nylon monofilament days.
