Haven't used it in anger but was having a feel and comparing it in the shop the other day. Interesting thing is that it feels "squishy" and gets thinner when you put it under tension as though the weave is loose? Feels nice and smooth but that sort of rattled me. Keen to see how people have fared on the water

awesome braid. I've fished most braids as well as braids no one here has even heard of.

If you were to walk into your big chains and compare quality to price; there isn't a better braid.

I've seen people say it is re-branded shinobi. Why I have no idea other than a stab in the dark guess to look "in the know".

It is re-branded Tournament Accudepth / Tournament Specialist. Hence why all shops have that on special and will be seen no more. The Tournament had differed across the continents so EU tournament would not be the same as AU Tournament. A deal was struck for USA, EU and AU with to bring out 1x 8 strand, 1 price, 1 factory. They chose the Tournament x8 and cheapened the colour additive and brightened it a little bit. But exact same line as the Tournament 8 Braid.

I have Tournament Accu 10lb on a Twinpower CI4 for 2 years now. I run 10lb J - Braid on my Vaquish reels and 30lb on my Twinpower SW. CI4 and Vanquish line is identical in every way.

Once the colouring wears out a bit the braid really starts to feels like cotton. Truer to a high end x8 braid.

Like most braids strength is no issue. 30lb I set my Twinpower @ 5kg. Wound it up to around 10kg to pull a 50lb cod up from 90 meters. Could have gone more but the Demon Blood CJ started to make cracking noises through the reel seat and butt end.

In regards to mm the 30lb is listed at 0.28mm. I believe this to be true prior to any colour added. My real says 0.30mm - 230 meters. I got exactly 225 meters on the spool. I also have exactly 200m of Unitika 29lb Jigging on my Stradic 5000. No room to spare on both reels. So the ratings of the J-Braid I gather where precisely measured and calculated accordingly.

All my reels will end up having the J-braid and morethan x6. When you can get a 500 meter spool of 8 braid for $90 at your local it makes it hard (for me) to even bother buying overseas exotic brands anymore.

Good info there, LRS.
At $90 / 500m, certainly worth a look into.

I use it in 30lb on my curado for cod, I love it. About to swap it out for 20lb j braid to chase sooties up north. It's the softest, limpest braid I've used. Abrasion resistance seems about average, but the knots it ties are exceptional, and casting distance (for me, so far) has been a little better than average. I like it.

I have been using J in 8lb for the last 3 months or so and have landed a few good fish however the last month it has been going fluffy around my FG knot after each session. I have to re-tie my leader after each session as the knot becomes so weak I am able to break it by hand after some longer days on the water. I always tie my knots very carefully and have never been able to break one by hand until this point, the braid always cuts me before the knot will fail. Also when tying a knot it is still very strong when fresh, it's just after some time on the water it becomes weakened significantly.

The braid has been fantastic up until recently with no issues except the odd miniature knot in the line which has pulled through on most occasions and I haven't had any questionable moments while breaking off snags or fighting fish. I have been fishing almost daily with the braid so perhaps it is normal for all braids to become weakened like this over such consistent salt water exposure.

I always rinse my braid thoroughly with warm water after every usage. I do baby my gear a bit but I definitely still use it hard and without compromise.

I wonder if anyone else had had similar issues with this braid or other braids?

I am by no means bashing this braid, I haven't had the pleasure of using many different brands so I haven't much to compare. I feel it is likely just a case of usage taking it's toll and the natural time to re-spool that would be expected from most braids; if anyone can suggest otherwise I would love to hear. If there is more life to be had from a braid I would be keen to know for my next option.

Cheers

Boon

I'm having this exact problem with sunline super 5.

I cut the last 5 metres off after each session. I was hoping j braid might have been the answer but I might have to keep looking.

Boonard - What kind of fishing have you been doing? Good fish on 8lb; you will inevitably get stretch in that area and separate the weaves a little. Along with rubbing across sand, rocks, guides and what have you. Wondering if you get a lot of line twist which will separate weaves around that area also.

As for my 30lb J - Braid.... Still going strong on 15+ kg AJ's, Cod, Mackerel and the likes. No drama with 30lb braid to 60lb leader via FG knot.

Waiting on the Tournament 8 next month. If its cheaper than the Ocea I will be all over it for jigging/trolling braid.

I've used the accudepth/ tournament stuff and it was nice for 6 months. After that though it fluffed up and lost a bit of casting distance. If it's the same stuff in a different box as stated i wouldn't be in a hurry to use it.

I haven't used the j braid specifically though. I've moved on to a different 8 strand that i trust 100% for about j braid price or therabouts.

chopperdog - what are you using 8-strand wise?

I've used 10x10 8s and Duel x8; all the same when it comes to light - med close reef work.

500m @ $90 divvied up perfectly between a 5000 and 6000 spool (225m/270m).

If there's another 8 carrier out there that can spool a 5000 and 6000 for $45 each I'd love to give it a shot.

I'm using 8lb J braid on a 2000 ballistic EX.
It's nice and supple, holds a good knot and casts well. I use a slim beauty knot and have had no fluffing issues.
I do get the odd tip wrap when I use micro guided rods like my saltist or gen blacks. All up I think it's a good braid

Nice line, having been using the 10lb, nice smooth finish and quite supple, well worth a go. Also have spooled up some heavier gear using 30lb. It's slightly on the 'ropey' side but not bad at all and hoping to connect it with the front end of a kingie sometime soon...
