Lightweight Beach Spinner

I'm toying with the idea of putting together a spin outfit for throwing light 20-25g metals off the beach at salmon and tailor.
I'm after a rod that would balance with my 232g 2500 Stella FE and hopefully be around 8-9 foot.
I'm more than happy to buy overseas and spend up to around $700.00 for the right stick.
On paper a Battler Shorehunter looks OK but possibly a little heavy. What else is out there?

I know this is probably well under what you want quality wise but the Daiwa Air Edge 9ft is a cracker for the money.

My 275 g morethan balances it just in front of the grip. It might be a bit heavy for specifically salmon and tailor. Check out seabass rods.. Majorcraft truzer 9 footer 10-30 g cast weight gets a great review from Henry gilbey

Id doubt much if anything 8-9 foot is going to truly "balance" a 232g stella 2500. My 10ft morethan is pretty light and even when i put an old model 4500 saltiga it was still tip heavy. My advice is just buy the rod you want, with the casting weight that you want and with the type of action you like and dont worry too much about balance. Your pelting slugs out into the ocean, not flicking 1g plastics into snags anyway. For me its all about how easily it casts the weight i want and then how it loads up on a nice fat salmon that matters most!

Id just go with a cheap 9ft nano something and cast it like you stole it lol and prob go a larger reel for spool size for longer casting or look ay some light squid rods to match up the 2500 .

OK thanks. I knew it was a long shot to find a rod that length to suit my reel.
Is there anything out there shorter capable of doing the job?
The main thing I'm looking for is a rod that can get me a bit of distance.
I'm not after a heavier outfit. I have one already but a pretty bad back injury makes it hard to cast for any amount of time.

Was following up the same idea with the same reel with a 3000 spool attached. PM'ed a member who had a Megabass Shadow 85L for sale (in July) as I felt this might do the job nicely but have yet to hear back. Good luck with your search. Regards, HBt.

Looking at the specs of the Shorehunter, I already have something pretty similar although 6 inches longer and no doubt a bit heavier.
The Chilli Dog looks OK though. Even though its line rating is similar, its cast weight is 7-28g.
How do you reckon one of these would go?

Without seeing s chilli dog I'd say it's a faster action, lighter in the tip but gutsier down low than the shore hunter.
The shore hunter however more parabolic to load right up and cast further and a nicer arc when fighting a fish, it is a really strong rod too though.

I hope that makes sense!??

Makes perfect sense Matt, thanks.
I'm still thinking the Chilli Dog may be more what I'm after but possible a little light in the tip.
I find rods never cast too comfortably when nearing their maximum recommended casting weight.
Its always a bugger buying a rod unseen.

i would bet money the chili dog is a fast action swimbait bass blank with spin rod fittings glued on.

No good for loading up slugs. No good for rolling surf and jumping salmon.
Too fast

I think matts spot on, a parabolic softer action is a thousand times better for spinning the beach.

have a look at 'egi' rods - not uncommon to see them 8-9ft and they cast light slugs a mile

Your lenght of rod is to short to get any real distance any away in my opinion for surf.i Use an 11ft century and can cast 3-30gr useing 15lb sas braid on a shimano 4000aero. I love the 3 gram slugs with white fluffy tied on.Killer on tailor.i get 60 m with the 3 gram and further with heavier slugs.
Cheers Graham
