Drying reels after use.

So after fishing everyone normally washes their reels (hopefully)... Spin them dry or shake them off - or both or wipe them down. But it doesnt get rid of the water between crevices, under the rotor, spool or in the line.

Some leave them outside, I do during summer - winter time is usually pointless. I also migrate them inside and usually left them on a shelf to further dry prior to storage - can be for a further 3 or more days.

The other day I went to Bunnings and bought some cheap (bargain bin) closet camels (humidity absorbers) for about $3 for a 3 pack.

So with two reels washed my Sephia Ci4 and the Stella FE and still beading with water and the spools washed well under running water I put them in a plastic bag with a closet camel and tied up the bag tightly.

The next day - dry as a bone everywhere!

When the closet camel is not in use just tie up the bag and throw the reels in the bag when you need them dried off - rather than relying on the atmosphere as its usually not that dry outside all the time.

Doing this I believe helps the storage quality of reels (corrosion wise), I do have silica gel bags (large ones) and VCI paper in the Kinchrome box they're stored in.

Hope it helps.

Andrew

A cheap fan to keep the air moving makes the humidity absorbers work even faster.

The warm end of this guys tank is around 38 degrees year round and super dry. I pop my reels in there for an hour or so. He doesn't mind.

Shouldn't do as the moisture absorbers absorb moisture in the form of water molecules.

Good idea however with the heat lamp and or UV light going i wouldn't drop a reel in there. Also my mates snake terrarium was quiet sandy...

Yep wash is misting the body thoroughly and running water only over the lined part of the spool. No soap suds or gimmicks.

I will generally allow my reels to dry in the sun. If it is overcast or wet I'll spend a bit of time with a cloth and then I put them on top of the central heating vents for an hour or so. It does not get hot, just warm air gently pushed over them.
