best cod baitcaster

hey fellas,

bit of a noob when it comes to baitcasters so was hoping the bm brains trust can help my out. Im after a bc reel to load up with 20pd braid and throw big spinner baits and hardbodies. Budget not an issue , nor is brand and will be paired up with the nitro 007 undertaker for packrafting trips into the unknown.
Any comments welcome cheers lads

Gday mate

I'd go with an old school daiwa zillion platform. Depending on the retrieve you're after, you cant go wrong. Theyre tough, solid and proven performers.

Or if you like round reels, a little luna or pluton, or something mb!

So many options available to you in this field
Good luck

Nagz

Have a look at the metanium range, among other things it's super easy and comfortable to use. Their is also a dc version of it now.

Zillion for a low profile or a Luna for a barrel drum reel.

If price is not an issue, consider a Calcutta Conquest 200. Awesome bit of kit with great looks and brilliant internals.

Chronarch 200 E 5, ( white one) I heard that they are soon to be ended. I fish quite a bit for cod and I rate that reel along with the older E 5 Curado to be great little reels.

Also consider going heavier than 20lb if you are chasing big fish with big lures😉

The new Zillion just doesn't feel as solid as the older model. It's based on the Tatula frame which is probably why it has a bit of play in it.

Old zillion is by far and away my favourite cod reel, I use a 4.9:1 for throwing spinnerbaits and crank baits and a 6.3:1 for topwaters and other sorts of things, so take your pick of the two based on what you'll throw most! But can't go wrong with a zillion

I've got the same rod with a chronarc e5 and it's a workhorse. Not the smoothest or best reel but tough as nails, have had it for nearly 5 years n have dropped it, tripped n stepped on it covered it in mud dropped it in the drink and it's still going 💪

Ive used a curado e5 for years. Its been dunked in saltwater twice, got sand in it twice, been dunked in fresh water probably 50 to 100 times and as far as servicing goes all ive ever done is crack open the side plates and flush it with fresh water and its never missed a beat.
