G Loomis GLX still worth getting..

Guys,

With so many quality rods available from oversea and locally nowadays and with new technology available as well, is it still worth getting a G Loomis GLX now?

Is G Loomis GLX still one of the best rod out there, as I'm looking at getting a SR842-2 GLX or TSR862-2 GLX?

Thanks for any input.

Yes, their blank is top knotch and they have class. I reckon they're still a top end rod.

Definitely great blanks, however.......... They are just plain

Thats fine if thats what youre after, and i certainly have a few, same as people like the edge rods, great performers, but imho, bland.

Everyone has a different taste, much like reels etc, so i think there will always be a place for these rods

Before i get shot in the face at close range, this is just my two bob
Cheers

I've had a few Rods in my time and some very expensive ones and for the last year and a half all I run these days is glx and imx ... There's very few rods that can take a beating like loomis and if they get scratched up I never worry... And there resale is reasonable

Hilux of the fishing rod

Ive got the two models that you are considering and I wouldn't swap them for any other rod in there respective line and weight classes. Ive built up rods with other blanks and at the end of the day its hard to beat the weight and action of those Loomis rods. A bit bland yes but I personally don't mind that not really into over the top bling.

would be nice if the upgraded the guides on them…

I love my loomis sticks but for the coin you are forking out they really should come with better guides.

Each to ther own and I know what I like and feel so have and use the 2 models that you are considering - classic rods. The SR in combination with my 2004 Luvias is the best combination for me that I have used. It is light and sensitive and as I am no spring chicken makes my fishing so enjoyable. Certainly would have no hesitation in purchasing these rods again if necessary. Good luck with your choice. Regards, HBt.

Hands down the best blanks on the market!!! Thats my opinion. The only problem is that the components guides etc are just crap. The new GLX come with recoil giudes which I hate. Can't go wrong with buying one but mate.

I run a quiver of both the SR and TSR. I don't think there a better blank out there for allround work, and its the best hardbody blank out there for me.
The TSR is a little stiffer. but both are super crisp. I would call them slow to med action.
The Recoils on the TSR I didn't like until I swapped to top quality (read silky smooth) braid and it became awesome. The noise with rougher braids going through the recoils takes some getting used to.
I have tried a multitude of top rods but keep coming back to my GLXs.
