Daiwa 2015 Zillion TW
Hey guys,
Has anyone had a play with one of these or got any reviews on them? I'm looking for a bait caster to go on a Majorcraft Volkey 63M and was originally going to go for a Tatula, but these look pretty sweet. They seem pretty similar spec'd to the Zillion TWS though, any idea on the difference? http://daiwafishing.com.au/products/2015-zillion-tw/ Thanks in advance. |

For the Volkey 63M, you might find a smaller and lighter reel, like an Alpha or an Alderbaran, matches the rod and balances the outfit better. |

I recently purchased an Alphas SV High gear and also managed to find a megabass Zonda finesse spool for it. I have tried all types of lines on it flouro, braid 0.6/0.8/1 etc fused 8 braid and on it goes, I have a line recycler so it makes it easy. Then I bought a T3 SV 8.1, well after hours and hours of testing I have come to the conclusion, the Megabass spool in the Alphas didn't warrant the expense over the standard SV spool the extra distance on 2 gram lures was minimal and the ease of use with the SV spool outweighed the price of the Megabass spool. My favourite is the T3 SV though the magforce 3D system is so easy to use, if you want to flick in between hulls and docks you just flick the switch for ease of use. The T3 SV also has a 90mm handle which I found a lot easier to use than the 80mm on the Alphas. Both these reels will cast lighter than a zillion, so if its bream lures the SV spools will be better suited. |

Zillion t-wings don't feel that great. The previous model certainly feels more solid, my Type-R is in no danger of being replaced by the new Zillion any time soon. The mag-sealed Zillion,is a pretty nice reel but is higher in price so you kind of expect that.
X2 for T3-SV, they are great reels! I have 2 and might end up with a third. Tatulas are no where near a T3 SV in quality. I think too many people go too far with baitcasters and the upgrades, the T3 SV can cast as well as any of the other variations of reels but ultimately when you get down into those really light lures, it is thumb control more than the reel that sets a good cast apart from an ordinary one. |

Any other recommendations? Budget is pretty well pushed at $300-320 to be honest as it's not something I'll use heaps. |

I'm really enjoying my zillion tws so far.. doesn't feel as tough as a the old type r but still a great reel. Mines a great casting reel. I think for that price range just get a standard tatula. Will easily do the job and for the price there a great reel. Either that or look at buying something from Japan. Can pick up a shimano scorpion dc for that price.

Get a Curado. They are pretty good reels. Bear in mind that for whatever reason there is a complete disconnect between spinning reel prices and baitcaster reels. $300 gets you a better baitcaster than a $300 spinning reel. If you are unlikely to use it much there are some half decent baitcaster reels from Okuma.

Yeah I'll be buying from japan so $315 seemed pretty reasonable for it.
I had a curado g6 and hated it so not too keen on going back for another one. |

My opinion isn't that great. I think it feels empty - by saying that I mean not as solid as the other zillion, the gears don't mesh together as nicely. It gave me a sort of plastic feeling. No doubt! A top baitcaster which would work really well, but you can't compare it to the old one. Even though it has mag seal and a few other features, the fact that the old one was made in japan shows by itself that it will be a better reel.
I haven't fished with it, however, so my judgement isn't fair, just a first impression! |

The guts...
I dont trust the T Wing system, tiny little plastic lug (arrow pointing to it) flipping the mech for the level wind, over and over again hmm. If the Zillion TWS and the Tatula TWS are the same I have little hope for them tbh... DSCF9489 Pointer.jpg The old Zillion would be my choice even with its own overburdened complexities and weight issues that would be my choice over the new model.

As much as the T-wing appeals, I've never liked it. I've only ever had problems with leaders not fitting through, and if they do, they can scratch the leader and leader knot! And now, mentioned above, I see that the plastic piece might it be up to the task of so much movement and pressure!
It does help casting though! If I was running straight through fluoro I'd consider it, but I will most likely never do that... |

T3 SV is indeed a good option. I have a T3 MX with upgraded SV spool - the SV spool really transforms the reel. With suitable line and rod, the spool will handle down to about 3 gram - pretty impressive for a non BF spool.

Hmm fair enough. From what I've read the t wing has been upgraded from the tatula so may not have the little plastic bit. I'm not too fussed on it casting really light weights as it will be used for casting spinner baits and divers for cod pretty much exclusively.
What do others use for there cod/Barra fishing? |

For baitcasting, I have: (match to rod, line, lures and location/application of course)
Core 50Mg7 T3MX with 1016 and SV 1000 deep; Metanium DC Exsense DC Ryoga 1016 Ryoga 1016H Just a heads up, the SV spool in T3 SV is the shallow version. |

Cool mate, thanks for your (and everyone else's) replies they've been a great help. The volkey should rock up tommorow so I'll have a good think about it when it comes.
