4 lb ygk ohdragon nightmare!!

Hey all recently spooled up a certate 2004 with this line and am having major dramas with tip wrapping. Pretty much 3 out of 5 casts it wraps up and or just sounds terrible going through the guides and lure only flies a couple metres on my gen black drunknmonkey. Am using 6 lb fc rock leader with an fg knot which looks smick but still sounds horrible when casting. Tackle shop at nelson bay reckons he only uses a short leader and casts with the knot outside the guides but surely this isnt what most people from this site would be doing when using these super fine lines?? Any advice or alternate lines in this class that are performing any better for users on BM? Driving me crazy because i spared no expense on this setup and its an absolute pain in the ass to use at the moment!

Go the .8 PE.
No need for fine lines.

the line isnt too thin, have you tried altering your casting technique ? try and have less line hanging from your last runner and make a short stabbing cast and see if you still get the line wraps.

Have you checked that the line isn't twisted ? How did you spool up ?

I had similar dramas some time ago with Diawa Sensor when I spooled from reel to reel and twisted the crap out of the line

Used it for along time.Like stik said no need to go that fine.I have found if your leader is near your spool its get to long.If you think this to short you have to go real long. It makes a big difference that's just my thoughts.

Is the leader too long under the first guide that could be a problem or as the other guys said could be the way it was spooled on.But that would settle after a few casts try cast something heavy so the line settles maybe that will help.

I've found with using thin braids ie .06 that I don't have many problems with line wrapping on the guides (wind knots etc.) if I have the knot joining the leader and braid sitting between the spool and the stripper guide (first guide) when casting, and also don't try and over do it and cast your lure 100meters. Works for me.

Yeh...totally agree with the position of the line to leader knot as Bronco said - gotta be between the spool and stripper. Usually have it only just off the spool myself and I regularly use .4 PE with no dramas what so ever. The other thing I'd say is to make sure the spool is not over full and that the line is not too loosely packed on the spool. This can happen easily when using plackies but even with HBs I generally wind at least a good casting distance back on under a little bit of even tension after a session. With plackies I'd do it every 8-10 casts.
Lastly I suppose K guides have been a huge improvement in stopping guide and tip wraps.
Cheers Paul

Yeah had it spooled up at the tsckle shop on their little machine so im assuming they know what they are doing. Doesnt look to be overful if anythjng i was thinking maybe some backing would help. Tried the knot between spool and stripper guide that didnt help shortened it till knot was between the 3rd and fourth guides and was better but still pretty crap. Altering casting technique etc and not trying to cast a mile helps too but isnt that the point of going to a finer line class to get maximum distance? I dont really want to have to baby every cast during a session. I have daiwa super 8 in 8 lb on two other reels snd they cast like a dream just think ill spool up eith that again and just use lighter longer leaders just wish it didnt cost me $60 to learn this!! Ah well.

I have a drunken monkey with a freams on it, running 8lb super pe and 4 lb leader, I never have any issues
have the knot sitting between the spool and first guide or just past the first guide.
you might just need to get the hang of it and you should be right. don't give up just yet mate.

If a 6lb leader tied with an FG is making too much noise through the guides then I reckon its physically too long. I tie my FGs with 20 wraps 4 alternating half hitches and a double half hitch to finish. This is for 10 lb and less. The knot ends up being about 7.5 to 10 mm long. Th FG is about as slim as a knot gets but if tied tooo long it behaves like bulky knot.
I have generally found that tip wraps are mostly attributable to a bulky leader knot.
Throwing Birdnests would be more due to over-spooling or line twist.

If you can, get a rod with K guides and try it with your reel, see if that helps.
