lure losses

Casting along the Tambo yesterday a little change in wind ( and poor skill :-) ) had my Rapala XR 8 hooked into a gum leaf.. I busted off trying to retrieve it and when I went around it was just dangling there out of reach, mocking me. I loved that lure, anyone have a story of a lure that was just a tad to out of reach to rescue??

yeah I lost a brand new crank crab 2 weekends ago in 5ft of water. I could reach it with the tip of rod in water but couldn't pull it of the crevas!

Plenty or lures and stories, but the ones that hurt most are those that are REALLY hard to get.

There is one such incident that always sticks in my mind, though the outcome was a good one...I was fishing bent minnows on one particular session last year. The bite was incredibly insane that day and I had already donated a couple of bents due to fish busting me off but later on in the day...I once again get busted off by another bream and was quite annoyed at loosing yet another bent for the session.
As I sat down in the boat to retie on another bent, I looked up and to my amazement and utter joy, the bent had popped back up to the surface.
I thought "You beauty" and lecceyd on over to grab my bent back. Upon leccying over, I watched on as four or five bream sat right under the bent and were all swiping at the lure. I was just waiting for the bent to disappear once more below the surface but managed to arrive just in time to shoo them off with the tip of the rod and reclaim my lure back.

I used to swim for a lot of lures, till the one day I swam down about 15 foot to retrieve a very $$$ bass lure. Whilst trying to pull the front treble out of a snag, I got the rear treble in my hand, for a few seconds I was snagged at the bottom of a lake on my favourite lure.

Luckily it was stuck on a soft log so I could remove it easily, but a bigger heavier wire treble stuck on a more secure snag, could have been a whole lot nastier.

After hearing a similar story, I won't dive for lures.
If the tackleback or prodder can't retrieve them, they can stay there.

Like Sexton said, I get my fair share of floating cranks floating back to the surface.
Fishing barbless really helps here.

Don't you love casting poppers for bass into trees and just watching them sit there in full view, just out of reach?

Worst lure loss for me is when I forget how well a lure casts (happens a lot with walkers) and I power them deep into reeds and can't get to them.

You got to ask FTP about my recent lure and tackle back near loss...

There was nigh high water or the risk of Bull shark attack that was going to see me loose that Ecogear and that Tackleback!!!

haha some lures are worth it I'll swim with sharks but I need a 5mm minimum.
I'd just swapped back from a mojiko copy of a river2sea copy of a rapala before that fateful cast too :-/ sigh...
