Best casting rod?
Hi all,
Looking for a rod for use with mainly hard bodies and some soft plastics. I will be chasing whiting on flats and i want a rod that can cast light lures (<5 grams) far, so something no shorter than 7 foot and no heavier than 1-3 kg. Budget is $400 as long as its worth the money. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

Braid
Just another question. What braid is 'the best' or at least your preferred for this type of use? I have been using TD Sensor for a while and it does the job other than the occasional wind knot, but are there any better options you have experience with? Unitika, varivas, castaway, etc.

I use fire line exceed on my rods but i was in my local yesterday and looked at some sufix nano that felt nice under the fingers very soft and the price point was great
I want to try this as my next line. Everyone here uses something for some reason be it sponsorship or it just works for them. |

Have you had a look at the Majorcraft Truzer.
Torzite guides so very sensitive due to less weight affecting the blank on casting, I have the 7'6" in the tubular model as a flats rod and its great. http://www.majorcraft.co.jp/english/...sp?mode=id/191 Castaway for me also. Last edited by bjspinner; 18-05-2015 at 05:51 PM. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
Does anyone use straight fluro over braid and can recommend their favourite? |

U can go lower then 3lb 'Bushy' for example was telling everyone at the eden boat ramp recently he dosent fish over 1kg fluro on hardbodies now and has completely removed the handles and grips from his rods and replaces them with wafer thin grips. 'brazilian grip' as he called it, obviously you have to have a very well balanced rod to fish 1kg and it goes without saying that even a fraction of resistance in your drag will mean breakage. Chris wright also another proponent of 1kg. i should add that bushy is most likely a more talented fisherman then anyone of us could hope to be and of course chris wright well his ABT wins speak for themselves, so 3lb probably the best place to start rather then 1kg. |

Interesting points but also two blokes that never have to pay for lures when they get smoked so they can afford to take risks all the time. |

Chris was a very good fisherman long before he was sponsored by shimano i dont think lure price would factor into his decision making too much. His primary income is ab diving.
Despite what you might think too, Bushy chris whoever alot of these guys can be seen regularly buying lures off the shelf for full retail. Ive watched bushy buy squidgies plenty of times, of course 50 cents would go back into his pocket somewhere along the line. I really dont think think anglers especially an innovator and lure maker like bushy would be factoring lure pricing into their selection of line weight. It might hurt less but i dont think it would tip the scales. |

Have a look at the FishTen20 web site. As for line I fish 4lb furo with hards mostly. Not sponsored with lures so don't go lower than 4 but lots of mates fish 3lb. I love fishing the flats but if you go 1 lb Fluro you will want a good supply of lues lol.

IMO if you can't catch them on 4lb you probably need to look at what you are doing rather than how thin your line is. Last edited by TheChief; 02-06-2015 at 07:26 AM. |
