Easier to cast 2 handed with. I have a few rods that have longer butts it doesn't really bother me. I tend to prefer to use those type of rods for fishing flats and open water. If I'm fishing structure I find the longer butt is a pain when trying to cast at snags etc.... I have rods with shorter butts I use for that style of fishing.

Accurate to cast for 2 handed beginners like me!
A much more balanced feel to the rod that doesn't want to nosedive into the water when you're spinning.
Good on you're forearm when fighting and steering a fish, I love em and think the short opposite is awkward.

yeah they come in handy when you hook into a jewy on your bream gear and lock down your drag when you want to get your lure back

Long butts good for f@ck all....hate them with a passion Clipping forearm with back casts ,skip casts and the like so annoying...fine on open flats though as people have mentioned...still rather none at all.

What rods are you using mate? I'm pretty stumped to think of more than a handful of old school short butt rods.
Keen to know

For bream and perch a long butt only gets in the way.

I'm total opposite. I can't stand short buts!
I guess it all depends on what position/technique people use to fight fish. I like to tuck the bottom of the rod in my armpit and lean back while fighting fish.

Custom Black Diamonds mate pretty old school but yet to
find anything better with the exception of my Loomis rods which have been shortened from 6 to 4 inches. Anyone needing to fight a bream under their armpit may as well take up knitting

Yea thought it'd be something like that the the loomis dropshot rod was cut short by a lot of blokes.

I use a gimbal belt personally and the long butt is great pairing with it for those 30cm plus bream.
