Major Craft Volkey Rods

For the guys who have experience with the Volkey rods, I need some words of wisdom from you.

I'm looking for a fast action/stiff rod that I can use for throwing hard bodies while chasing bream and flathead.

Scouring the Major Craft Volkey page, I came up with:

Volkey VKS-662L
Volkey VKS-662ML

Volkey VKS-S682/SFS

The latter model I've included though I have a feeling it might be a touch softer being a solid tip, correct me if i'm wrong on this.

Out of these 2/3 rods, which would be more suitable for the purpose I'm after?

thanks in advance!

hell of a rod for the price and they come in 2 piece too if you want a good travelling rod. The tips are light, so makes a good bream HB and plastic rod. could use it for flatties but bigger lures will push the relationship. The micro guides may not be fond of leaders heavier than 8-10lb.

But still a cracker of a rod.

I've had the Volkey VKS-662L for a while. I'm still not sure about a decent application for it. What I do know is that I didn't like it for light hardbodies (felt too stiff).

I've got the 662ml and its probably not what you're after. It's really really stiff, so not ideal for hard bodies. I use it for soft plastics chasing pinks/snapper and for chasing EP in snags.

Thanks gummy guy. I was thinking of using it as an exclusive HB rod as I have another one i prefer for soft plastics.

The micro guides I can work with as I have an NS Black Hole Ones 662ML that has micro guides and I tend to use light (4-6lb) leaders anyway.

@BrizVeggasBretto & Pies1010

I don't mind stiff rods for HB's as it gives me the ability to really "crank" the action into those lures while giving me the grunt I need if i need to steer fish away from structure.

The 662ML I feel may be a tad overkill.

So I'm down to the 682/SFS or 662L in terms of choice.

Oh and by the way, where do you get your Major Crafts from? Online? I know Frogley's import them in but only a certain range.

I have the Volkey VKS-632 UL with a cast weight of 1/32 - 1/4 it struggles on the heavier hard bodies, the SFS is rated even lighter you may find it will be worse than the 632 UL.
I was casting Cranka shallow minnows with the 632 UL so not a real heavy lure the main problem was accuracy was not there with a heavier lure, though great for un-weighted plastics and smal HBs.

Plat Fishing.

Thanks Bjspinner,

Could the Volkey 632UL handle Bent minnows (4.3g-5/32oz)?

When it comes to hard bodies I use anything from little Pontoon 21 crackjacks (3.1g) all the way up to Bent Minnows and Skinnypops (3.6g)

Or should I go the 662L?-kinda leaning towards this now.

I figured it might have been Plat. In essence you guys buy your rods "blind" so to speak.

The 632UL will throw bents but not accurate enough I found it more difficult to get accuracy as the lure weight went up.
I have a basspara 662ML which is a little heavier, I know the basspara is not the same level as the Volkey but I feel the 662L may be more to your liking.
Considered something longer?
Dependent upon landbased, boat or kayak fishing.
Value for money you can't go past OS for this brand, purchased my basspara locally and got robbed. Spur of the moment purchase that my partner now uses.

Thanks for the insight.

Yeah I'll probably go with the Volkey 662L when the time comes.

I'm more land based but I already have a 7ft I use. I tend to use the smaller rods when i'm fishing under trees and bridges.

I was in Singapore recently and purchased a Major Craft KG Lights T702 Aji for just over $200. Awesome rod for that price.
