Thoughts

I need to replace braid on my symtre 750 .
What Id like to know can one use Fluorocarbon instead of braid .
Like to use it at present with soft plastics and perhaps hard bodies .

Cheers
mick

You can use fluorocarbon as a mainline, but not fluorocarbon leader. Look a fluorocarbon marketed for mainline/spinning. Sunline Sniper is a good starting point.

I would use 3lb. I've tried 2lb and below, caught more fish but obviously line broke easier. 4lb is much too stiff and hard to cast. 3lb provides ample balance of cast-ability strength. (It's stronger than a braid and 4lb setup.)

Fishing with 3lb at first feels a little bit less sensitive than braid, but you get used to it. The sensitivity depends on your rod as well. I like the added stretch when fishing with HBs, reduces the chance of fish pulling hooks. I don't remember a time where I've pulled fish on straight fluorocarbon.

SPs with straight fluorocarbon, it's doable. But rods need to very sensitive as it's a contact technique. Solid tipped rods are best.

Lastly, straight fluorocarbon shines best when targeting schooled fish. Allows you feel more of the larger bites than the smaller ones. Useful when bait fishing too.

Just a question won't 3 and 4 lb break easier than 6 lb just asking

3lb is the way to go. I am ditching the 6lb fc I have on a surf reel as it is too jumpy and the line doesn't lie as well as 3lb. It really doesn't seem like a big deal until you use both. The stretch in fc gives it a buffer so it doesn't snap as such. It is amazing just how much it takes to break 3lb if your drag is set right. And the ability to not pull hooks is a major advantage. 4lb braid is harder to fish with than 3lb fc in my experience.

The lack of sensitivity is a real thing when using fc for sp fishing, however the added stretch and abrasion resistance has re-ignited my love of metals. Definitely give it a go, you will be pleased that you did, also the whole fc sinks so don't use it for surface is a bit far fetched.

I don't get the stretch aspect of FC. It's a low stretch line - in fact some brands like Daiwa Brave Finesse Spinning Flouro place emphasis on it being "almost zero stretch" in their marketing. I'm always perplexed that one of its most touted benefits "stretch" runs counter to the physical properties of the line. Yes - It stretches more than mono, but it needs greater force applied before it starts to strectch ... I'm not sure if those forces are reached fighting a fish .. maybe they are?

Anyways .... I'm going back to straight-through (3lb Tpray Bawo) to try it again - but only for bibbed lures and openwater/bank fishing on spooky fish in relatively shallow and clear water.

Other than that application I prefer braid.

I'll talk to someone in a tackle shop . The laguna 1000 has braid on both spools from 2 different shops . one has given me so much grief .
Symetre came with braid and its dead tied on a a leader and it snapped.

Just thought if i didnt have to tied leaders lol
