Glx dsr rebirth

Hey all
Anyone stripped above rod and replaced components?
Going to do it with one of mine after an unfortunate incident with another rod

I looked into getting rod builder's to do this to a bsr glx a few months back, none wanted to touch it, aparently they have a tendancy to break. May be worth looking into first.

What he said. I wanted to do the same but got a similar response. Maybe if u can get the old guides/epoxy off without any heat then good but otherwise i was told using any heat usually results in the blank bending at right angles.

On other rods ive used a blade to slice the epoxy carefully once you reach the thread it sometimes comes off in once piece or you can shave it didnt use any heat.Try it on a cheap rod.

I've replaced the guides on 3 of my Loomis rods and a lot of other rods as well with no problems, you have just got to be careful and most of all take your time and don't rush it, use a fresh blade in a Stanley knife and change it during the process if necessary.
I have never used heat on the guides to remove them, never had to, start cutting along the guide foot that way your cutting away from the blank for a lot of the work also a strong thumb nail helps in peeling off the old epoxy, when you have removed the guides I lightly sand the blank where the guides were just to get a smooth surface to rebind on.
If your going to remove the reel seat and grips the same process is followed, a Dremal type tool will help in cutting through the reel seat.

No difference in the rod action that I noticed, I changed the Recoils for Sic's found it better to cast with, hate Recoils.
There wont be any noticeable difference in performance if you replace the guides in the same place as the old ones and you use the same size guides

Cheers.
