Beginner tournament boat
Was looking at doing the GTA events this year and next with my mate and was wondering what the minimum requirements for motor size, deck size etc you would all recommend.
He is the one buying the boat but doesn't have unlimited cash so do you reckon 8 - 10 grand would be enough to get a boat that would be realistic for this kind of comp?

Most tournaments ask for boats to be a minimum of 3.75m with at least 25hp and to be capable of planning with two anglers and a full live well.
With your budget you should easily be able to find a Quintrex hornet or Polycraft challenger both great starting platforms usually equipped with 30-50hp motor, sounder and electric motor for that 8-10k price range here is a good example http://www.tournamentboats.com.au/vi....php?view=1336

Great advice above and that Poly is really a good buy. Saw that tub in person at the GF

I've fished out of that same model poly albeit with a 60 yammy on the back, awesome rigs! And go like the clappers for a little boat!

you should get a nice boat for that price range. I just sold my 400 hornet trophy fully decked out with dual HDS etc for around that 10k mark. Fished in heaps of tournaments out of that boat and it went great.

I'd buy something already done as you can save a lot of cash. A great place to start is a non boater in ABT. I've been fishing them for a few years and you get to see a lot of deferent set ups. You also learn so much about fishing comps and how to fish a new area. It's a great way to meet like minded people. Have fun!!!
