Rod and Reel, what to get. Open to suggestion
Hi all,
its about that time of the year where its time to grab another rod and reel combo to ad to the collection. I would be looking at spending around $200-$300 for the combo. Are there any basic reccomendations for what to get. i really like what shimano are putting out at the moment including the stradic reel, which im thinking of buying singularly and putting on my current rod, and soon after update the rod. Mainly using for bream, flathead, squid and anything inbetween. I do most of my fishing in the Hopkins and at Mallacoota. Even if there is anything second hand that i could perhaps purchase off someone after some look into the product etc. Cheers in advance, Mitch

I am a big fan of the Stradics
Rod wise I have a couple Pfleuger Trions 1-3kg matched to 1000 Stradics 13 Fishing OMEN Blacks look pretty good for the $

$200 to $300 doesnt give you much of a leeway within regards to combo's, as such.
However there is a Shimano Saros (newest generation) and Shimano Nano combo at B.C.F at the moment for around $280 which I found to be very good value! The new Saros is a pretty sexy looking reel for its price bracket! Same reel internals as the Stradic however has a XTG7 graphite body rather than a hybrid body of aluminium and XTG7. May have a lesser bearing count by one but that doesnt really matter in the greater world of things, especially for what we're all doing. If I had to choose between the two as in a blind fold test, I doubt I would be able to tell the difference in smoothness or feel. Thats my 2C

Daiwa Generation Blacks have some really nice options in the line up. Personally, I love the matte black look too. Ive got the wicked weasel which is a 2-6kg rod. Pulls up 3-4 kilo snapper without a problem. Im sure the lighter models would be a great fit for some breaming/flattys.
They go for about 160-180 in most tackle shops. As for a reel, you could probably grab a new 2015 freams from japan for about 120-140 + post. |
