Ten20

My new spin rod arrived today.
Built by Mark Newcombe (Fish TEN20) on his own one piece 1-4 kg blank, shortened from 7"2' to 7".
Gold Microwave guides.
ATC custom hydrodipped seat and custom ten20 trim.
I think it looks great with the Luvi. 2004 on it.
Can't wait to put a bend in it...

not sure I understand the point of the guides. More weight and less casting distance, isn't that what everyone tries to avoid? Looks good though.

Thanks fellas. It certainly is something different.

@ oldballs - This one set me back < $300, plus post. "Mates rates".
RRP is $450.

@ lukereneeseth - have you tried the microwaves? Being titanium they are pretty light. Add to that one stripper then all microguides, as opposed to a stripper and 2-3 smaller guides before the micros and I don't know if there is any real added weight. As the line straightens out from the stripper guide instead of "spiralling" through the guides it doesn't seem to detract from distance at all, and fewer wind knots as a bonus. Of course, I'd have to try two identical rods, reels, lines with only the guides being different (Microwave v's traditional) to be certain of this.

My mate had a ten20 rod, sold it for $50 bucks, wouldn't use it for a joke.

Although some seem to love em.

Well I wish he had sold it to me. I've had one of these rods for about 6 weeks and all I can say is it's the best rod I've used for a long time. The bottom guide is designed to straighten the line out so it goes out faster and straight through the guides. But each to their own. There is more to these rods that meets the eye. If you want to know more have a look at Marks site. Personal choice.

I love mine and when I can afford it I'll get a few more.

Certainly do want to try them now on my next build! Have been looking into them however spuriouse about their guide material?

I've got the mudhole magazine and they certainly look ok, but would like to see or hear some real world opinions - yours included when you've fished with it over a time.

Look forward to the response with the guides!!!

Fished marks rods numerous times, only ever liked them the first time i felt it, many of the guys i know and fish with dont like them either, they seem to be something people really enjoy fishing with or dont at all its a bit weird. Not trying to be offensive either, just dont like the blanks or the guides or the reel seats that are used. Other than that its great workmanship on the bindings and exceptional customer service etc.

Hey Slazmo.
This is my 4th rod using the Microwaves, guess you could say I'm a convert.
Haven't had any problems with them, although I don't get to fish anywhere near as much as some on here do.

Not sure how much the guides are from the US. Rod Components Australia is the local distributor: http://www.rodcomponentsaustralia.co...ides-tops.html

Where do you live? There are a fair few of Marks rods (either MCF or Fish TEN20) with the microwave guides getting around, someone nearby might have one you can try.

I have 3 ten20 rods with the tidal wave guides. I have found that the I can out cast my older k guides and get a lot less wind knots. I was a bit skeptical about the guides at first but seeing and feeling the difference cant be mistaken.
