Jewie Rod

Hey guys, I understand this is a bream forum but i'm looking for advice on what rod to use for jewfish. I will be predominantly landbased and solely lure fishing, the rod has to be two piece for transport and I have a budget of $200 but i am willing to buy secondhand. No brand preference so long as the rod is nice in hand.

Thanks in advanced for any help, Alex

I would reccomend a maximum line rating of 6, 7 or 8kg for land based.

Are you throwing lures from a headland ? Break wall ? Or into a river ?

If you are from a breakwall or headland id suggest a daiwa seabass 96ml 4-8kg 9ft 35gm cast weight. Beautiful rod for around 160 dollars. Length to land fish from headlands and break walls and still sensitive enough to work big plastics and vibes. Also I feccomend croaker lures if your after some bug Jews hand made on the north coast easily the best big Jew hardbody I've ever used and cast a mile.

Don't short change yourself and get a stick too short . you are land based forget the sporting aspect and get yourself a rod that can land the barstards. A little 7ft bream stick won't cut it .

+1 on the seabass. Got the 8'6 model paired with 3000 fuego. Awesome land based rig though if breakwalls are your game, go the 96 model.

Gen black, black sniper. $160, 3 piece.

Great budget rod, I use one with a 2500 caldia for the same purpose and can't fault it

Black sniper is the wicked weasel equivalent travel version which you already have alex..
I would use that as a start if your desperate. ..
Falling that a second hand nitro voodo or something similar will be perfect.
Not sure on any of the other brands as I don't have any experience with them.
But I'm sure you can find something from the genblack stable for this purpose... id rey to steer clear of micro guides since you will be using heavy leaders unless you want to try the fg knot. ...
There's a few guys who fish for jews a lot here . Id wait for them to reply first. .
Cheers

I'll be fishing all over the place with it and as a result can't really comment on average fish size. based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne if that helps though.

Cheers Alex

In Melbourne your likely to encounter jews from 3lb to 40lb regularly and on occasion up to 70lb if your lucky.

?

don't wanna go to light, calmer water - something 3-6kg up
break walls , headlands - at-least 4-8kg up, or just can't physically lift bigger fish, daiwa seajigger
