Super pe only goes down to 6lb, but its incredibly thin stuff. I highly recommend it, it comes in bright green, dark green or white.

Was thinking about this the other day. I really see no reason to go below 0.6pe for any type of fishing I do. I just don't see any real advantaged with casting distance going any finer in the diameter.

I run 0.6 on 2004 sized spools and 0.8 on my 2506 reel and it is perfect.

I run Unitika Aorika II in the 0.6 and Megabass Dragon Call in the 0.8 and above. Not super cheap but have very few issues with my lines these days.

You don't believe that you'll cast any further with .4 or you just don't want to cast any further?

I think 6lb is pleanty enough but also depends on the rod you have an how you can load it up also what knot you use because that hits guides.
I use FireLine exceed but that saying super pe in 8lb is super slick mate.

I'm sure I would cast further all other things remaining equal but have not really found a need for the extra meter in lieu of more stopping power. I have found I fish pretty heavy drags and land good fish doing so. I am sure I would catch a lot of fish still if I went to 4lb braid but with knots and what not I might end up with an effective line class of 1kg and I will normally fish heavier drags than that.

I have also found that the heavier braid namely the Dragon call has a slicker surface to it not available on the lighter lines and I get really positive distance despite the thicker diameter.

If I fished flats more than I do then i might want the extra meter and not worry so much about the breaking strain.

4lb? 1kg!!??

The .4 I use on 2 spools is a 9lb braid. Probably more than enough. The .6 i run on a couple of other general purpose/heavier setups is 13lb. Definitely overkill.

I guess I'm just used to using .4 and prefer it over thicker lines. Again these lines aren't in the value for money category either.

Was more talking about the lines that break at or below their breaking strain. but your point is very valid. I would be more than happy to fish a 0.4 in 13lb configuration. In fact what is it I will get some for the new exists.

I'm really digging Varivas lately, they have some wicked braids in the max power range.

Like Ross I don't go below .6, I don't believe the casting would be all that different if I went to .4 and line management is easier.

Toray Powergame is a ridiculously good braid too but quite expensive

Doesn't SAS braid do some thin lines for their stated breaking strain Ross? Fairly manageable too from all reports and quality customer service.
