8 Braid for Baitcasting?

Just wondering if an 8 braid on a baitcaster is doable? I'm wanting to put #1.5 8 braid on my Exsence DC for shore jigging purposes.

Currently using a 4 braid and it's fine but wondering if an 8 braid is worth the extra cash.

Hey mate, just putting my 2 cents worth: absolutely doable but I am not sure if you will notice significant improvement in terms of line management and casting performance. I have tried quite a few PE lines on my baitcasting reels, range from PE 1 to PE 4. I tend to choose a good quality 8 strand PE, like Varivas Avani Max Power Casting PE in the heavier offerings (#3 & 4, in my case), when I need to pack just a little bit more line onto the spool.

Thanks, appreciate your input.

So, if you were given a choice of an 8 braid and a 4 braid to use with a baitcaster, which line would you choose? (Provided that the only difference between the lines was the strand count.)

This is how my shopping preference, in terms of fishing lines, has changed in the past year:
Before kid ==> best of the best, try almost everything, 8 strand all the way;
After kid ==> bulk 4 strand, finding myself reuse old line more often.

So I think you could guess my pick now would be a decent 4 strand, especially for relatively small size (for BC) like #1.5.

It's ok doc,

Kids get cheaper as they get older. I've got three, youngest is six, and theyte way cheaper than babies. Less work too thank Christ.

Gone are the days of fins braid and hello varivas, Unitika aorika and Megabass dragon call!!

Back to the topic, I don't think you'll really experience much of a difference unless you are super in tune with your rod and reel combo and know it's capabilities on a romantic leveL.
Some people I fish with have found it slightly more sensitive to manage on a bc reel, but with some practice sorted themselves out.
My vote goes to 8, provided you are comfy with a bc and realise of you bird nest, chances are it's going to be trickier to fix, and potentially $$$ to replace.

Just my two bob, half the fun is experimenting.

Have you thought about a 5 or 6 strand braid. Sublime super 5 is excellent in my baitcasters. 200m spool and marked for jigging.

Yeah I won't be having kids for a while. That's the plan anyway.

I'm thinking a 4 strand would do better than an 8. Was playing with my 8 braid on a spinner and it did have a substantial amount of dig in.

And also did some research in Japanese and all blogging anglers were using 4 strands like Hardcore and Power Pro.

Right, which I probably won't. I'll casting 40g jigs so casting distance between an 8 or a 4 won't be too much. And 4 strands are cheap, looking at some Hardcore for 20 bucks a 200m spool on Plat.

Sunline is a great brand but Duel has done better for me. Duel offer the same 200m marked spool as well. Both would be great but Duel lines are much more available online.

Appreciate your replies. Now I need to buy the rod, line and jigs and I'll be set. Thanks.
