Light beach fishing

Buying a cheap combo for larger plastics and small metals for light rock and beach fishing as a gift for someone who has crappy stuff. Figured Id spend about $150-$200 all up. Saw Starlo Shorespin rod plus a Pfleuger Trion 4000 on special for around the $150 mark. Never used the reels but I have an old Starlo Shorespin that did a great job. Anyone able to comment on the Trion or suggest an alternative set up in that dollar range?
