polycraft 4.5

Hey guys

just after a bit of advice in regard to a polycraft and hull power to weight. I am looking at a 4.5m with a 50hp suzuki 4 stroke.. Would want to option it up with mine kota associated battery's live well setup etc...

but am a bit worried about when fully equipped might struggle with the 50... it also has a 70l underfloor fuel etc.

Let me know what you think fellas never been in one too have a good idea what power will be like

thanks in advance luke

Hi Luke, went out in one a few weeks back - 4.5 poly dual console with 50 suzuki, fitted out with minn kota 55 pound + battery + cranking battery, two guys, gear, fuel and got along okay. By all means not quick but did the job fine. If I had the option would indeed go the 60....

Hey mate...I have a 4.1 poly with a 30 hp...I would go the 60. Mine gets along okay but could do with the extra horses...you will be carrying alot of weight in the live well and fuel so the biggest motor you can have will be better.

cheers

Thanks for the advice

fellas was sort of thinking the same... especially as I will cross bars and do mackeral and snapper trips with it occasionally obviously won't fill the live well when crossing bars lol but I think the few extra ponys r a good idea...

how do they handle the chop and crap I'm yet to actually get in one..

I have owned 2 x 4.1 Poly's, one with a 40 honda, the other with a 40 etec, both of those rigs were an awesome little boat and ventured from the port of brisbane over to tangalooma (30km) on a number of occasions, plus a lot of fishing up in Darwin & Mackay, versatile boats that cop a beating. The 4.5 that I recently went in I was not that overly impressed (comparing it to my 4.6 top ender) but still it gets the job done, I found it to be a little bit wet, I think the guy I went out with was going a little bit hard through the chop, could have brough the rev's back to get a better ride. I suggest you jump on Polyboat owners forum and have a chat to a few of the guys on there.
