Hi Mckail,
What kind of gear are you using? Rod? Reel? Line? Leeder? This will give people a better idea on how to help you out. Cheers, Cameron |

Have you tried Soft plastics?
I find them better to use and have picked up a fare few other species on them compared to the 2 redfin i got on hard bodies! It might also be that the hard body isnt getting down to the fishes depth? and this is where soft plastics work well! Give them a go if you dont already. Soft plastics i would recomend would be Atomics as they pick up a few species of fish and are good for a begginer. But thats just me im a Soft plastic man!

Hi Mckail, did you say you were fishing in Rockingham? There won't be any black bream there but as you mentioned you have already caught tarwhine there on bait. I have caught a few tarwhine in the Canning river although they were pretty small. I am not sure how tarwhine compare to bream in the agression and lure taking stakes but I would think that they may be similar.
As for using HB to catch them try as slow a retrieve as you can and put in a few twtiches and pauses to mix it up a little. If you are lucky you may get a flounder or flathead where you are too. They tend to like the fine sandy/silty bottom around Rockingham. I would recommend you get a river to sea shad in gold/orange. They are awesome bream lures and have a great action. They don't dive as deep as RMG scorpion 52's but should be Ok if the water isn't too deep. Good luck and let us know how you go.

Ive also seen alot of tarwhine around the rockingham area, and flathead aswell. Never tried catching them on lure, don't know you will have much luck out there with those hard bodies. You should hit some of the river systems like the murray or the swan, try those lures on some bream.

Might I suggest a change in line. Try using Fireline.. at the most 6lb but 4lb is best. You'll be surprised by the difference you feel with Fireline and with bream, they occassionally take the lure as its sinking (SPs) and with mono you won't know that it might taken it and then spat it out. With Fireline, you don't tie it straight to your jig/lure. You'll need at least a metre of quality mono line. I use Berkley Vanish in 4 or 6lb depending on water clarity. That might make a lot of difference to your results.

Chunqx is spot on, the 8lb mono is your weak link. Fireline is going to improve casting distance, bites detection and hooksetting.

thank guys ive been toying with the idea of buying some fireline this is as good a reason as any i have noticed that my casting distance is not as fantasic i was thinking of going to a 7 ft rod to fix that problem ill try the fireline first withmy job i find it very difficult to find time to fish at all rather than managing to get to perth to the swan or south to the serpentine river
thanks for all the advice
