Are 6 strand braids typically flat or round?

Hey guys, just looking at some 6 strand braid and wondering if i should expect it to be flat or round? Or could it be either, just depending on hows its been woven?

If anyone has experience with 6 strand braids let me know!!

Thanks!

A run down on strands and cross sectional shape

3 strand is flat and is exactly like a plait in someone's hair

A 4 strand is box like with 4 distinct "corners" but these are rounded

6 strand braid is oval in shape

8 strand is the closest to perfectly round as you can get even under tension.

A 12 or 16 strand braid is round but flattens out under tension

This is a general statement as coatings can be added to make the flatter braids feel round until it wears off.

Cheers
Dan

Thanks for that.

Just curious as ive got 8 strand braid that is really round and very smooth. But ive also got another line, different model but same manufacturer that was again an 8 strand, except this braid while being just as smooth was quite flat!

Anyway ill see how this 6 strand goes.
