Bream on lures
I've had trouble catching any fish, I don't know why? I'm using light leader (6lb) but I've only been using plastics and poppers due to the amount of lures i have lol, should I invest in a osp dunk and a few sx40s? Iv done a search on older threads but couldn't find much, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers guys Blake |

Hey Buddy, the plastic should definitely be doing the job at this time of year. I would worry less about the lures you use, they all catch fish. I think you should concentrate more on where, when and why, as in where will the bream be, at what time/tide, and why are they there... Structure gets talked about a lot when you fish for bream, but it's easy to get carried away. These days I mostly fish sand flats and shallow weed beds, and I've caught bream on everything from a homemade soft plastic to a $35 OSP bent minnow!

What plastics are you using?
Get yourself a pack of zman grubz in motor oil and a pack of 1/16th oz jig heads. Cast deep into structure and when it hits the bottom leave it for 2 seconds and lift the rod tip up and do the same action untill you reach the boat. It's the way I learnt to catch bream and it works |

Persistence is the key. The first one is always the hardest. Keep doing what you feel confident doing and they will come

I been using squigys in the prawn colour with a 1/12th jig head, maybe I'm just not going to the right spots but I got a few hits tonight and pulled in a little flatty, I'll keep at it and I'll get one

If the water isn't deep, try lighter jig heads.

What I was told when I first started was..
Keep moving, don't just keep flogging the same area, cover ground. With HB, slow the retrieve down. When you think your going slow enough, go slower again. I took me over 70hrs of casting lures before I got my first bream, im sure others may even longer. Im no gun but hope that helps

What plastics are you using and what sort of area you fishing? Is it a spot where you catch bream using bait?

Nah - if anything - reduce it.
Gone through this process myself in the last year. Rather than chop and change lures pick one and stick with it until you crack how to use it and then switch and so on. Took me a good month to get my first - at least a dozen sessions. Stick with the single tailed grub and work it slow. Youtube clips of experienced bream fishers retrieves and mimic them. But as above start with small slow lifts with pauses inbetween. This time of year plastics are good. As yak hak said focus on finding the fish then present your lure - sooner or later you'll crack it and then wonder what the fuss was ![]() Scent on lures like a-factor is good as is using gulp. Good luck mate - it gets easier

I dont have much luck with bream on plastics but i catch plenty on poppers just cover as much ground as possible bream spook easily so have a few casts and move on, and remember to pause occasionally when targeting bream

Yeah mate, you've gotta keep moving. When I first started I would cover a lot of ground, over a km, stopping every 20m to throw a few casts out... eventually I started to find the places that produced fish more regularly and would stop there for a bit longer and maybe throw out 20 casts or so before moving on to my next "go to" spot.
