Does Braid degrade during storage?
I was going do purchase a large spool of braid so that I always have some on hand in the case I get spooled by that monster fish.
Will it degrade over time if i keep it in the cupboard away from light? |

Unlikely. I have about a dozen spools of different line, mostly PE in the storage, too. As long as we keep them away from the sun, extreme heat, moths and rats, they should be alright.

I have heard that some Monofilaments will absorb moisture and will break down "eventually", thats why some 2000's Circa monofilaments came in a humidity controlled sales pack...
Braid, Thermofused or whatever I have not had any issues with, I keep it in a cupboard in the garage, the garage gets hot and humid when the car gets in wet during the summer and I have had no issues. If you're thinking of a 1000 meter spool, just put it in a bag with some silica gel packs and tie it up and store it away from heat and UV damage. |

I've still got a role of mono from about 15 years ago, still perfectly fine but with a solid memory.
I think the more "un natural" the longer it will last. Kind of like confectionary bread, long life milk and cheeseburgers. In the fishing world it seems the longer you keep something the older the technology anyway. But I have never heard of a life span for braid. I just had a check over of the very first braid I bought about 6 years ago now; used Platil and still could not snap it with tee towels around my hands. |
