tasmania trip 1 rod
Hi guys I'm heading to Tas in dec. I'm not a bream fisherman at all but I do chase bass at every chance I get. I'm after some advice on a rod to take with me for the trip can probably only get away with taking 1 rod and it has to be 2 piece. Any ideas would be great will mainly be land based but prob will hire a boat along the way and do a day with a guide. Also any must have lures ?

Maybe have a look at the Lox 2-5kg rod. I have one in the 6'10'' length and it's a very versatile rod indeed. They come in 3 lengths and they're all 2 piece rods. They can be fished effectively at both ends of the scale. They can present the lightest of hardbody lures with finesse, with its relatively light tip section and yet it can handle a full 5kg on larger species, with it's robust 'low down' power. It's what they call a 'cross over' rod and it would have to be one of the most versatile rods that I know of. It effectively covers everything from bream to snapper. They cost around the $200 mark and they're a very handy rod to have around.

If i was to be lucky enough to head to Tassie in December, id pack the following lures:-
Cranka Minnow SR Cranka Minnow DR Cranka Crank SR Cranka Crank DR Bassday Kangoku shad Ecogear MW 62 Pontoon 21 Gagagoon. Daiwa Presso Minnow Daiwa Double Clutch. The above will cover most bases ... |

I dont think chief will let you off the plane without a megabass sword with which to battle!

$400 gives you tons of options. Nitro, a couple of Lox... or a custom.
A decent 2-4kg rod will land most fish you are likely to encounter land based down here, without being too heavy to be "sporting" or to flick little bream or trout lures with. |

Let us know when you get down here and we might be able to tee up a couple of days on the water. ;-) I'll see if I can convince (breaming royalty) the chief to leave his cave too. Haha. Good time to visit! Just about any Rod you like the feel of will cover it. Needs to have a bit to stop em around the racks and snags but be able to work a small top water (especially in December). I'd go something with a pretty serious taper. Let's you fish a bit more range. Coming early or late in the month?

A Travel Rod
Lox also make a 5 piece seven ft its rated at a straight 5kg but the tip is about 2kg. I bought one then had to buy another but you will probably have to order it as its not common knowledge.I build custom rods and if i could buy this blank i would be rapt.Caught a lot of fish on plastics with this. Retail around $240-$260
