I curently use 20lb Power-pro on my jew sticks for the harbour off boat. Unless your fishing off rocks etc I think 50lb is overkill.

if your using lures fishing in estuaries and on a boat/yak I'd be going a line around 20lb-30lb and within PE 1- PE 2 but I'd stick closer to PE 1

Im fishing 18lb toray seabass power game from the yak. Ive landed meter plus jews on 10lb frog no drama. 50lb is really going to hamper your casting distance.

They must breed them tougher in Port Stephens.

I run 10lb Castaway and 15lb Super PE for the same purpose in South East Queensland (yak based). They fight half as hard as the Snapper here. All they have is weight. No dirty tactics, no vicious head shakes.

As others have said 50lb seems overkill, jewies are pretty clean fighters and with a bit of patience you can knocked over meter on reasonably light braid, it also gives you the advantage of getting lures down quicker and better sensitivity.

i fish land based off breakwalls. out of every person ive talked to people that use 7ft, ive talked to people who 12ft rods. ive talked to people who use 20,000 stellas and 6500 saltigas the there people who use 4000 shimanos and 4500 daiwas. out of all these people the only consistant thing is 50lb braid

By the sounds of that, i would say they are bait fishing (u don't see many people flicking plastics for jews with a 20,000 stella ) For lure fishing as said you want a thinner braid for casting distance and more sensitivity. I would suggest maybe 20lb or pe 2 braid off a rock wall is your situation.

Maybe u dont see but i have seen 2 people now chucking platics for jewfish with a stella 20000. both blokes were fishing 65lb and 50lb braid.

the break wall jewie fishing would be very different to fishing for them in calm estuaries, I'd just imagine using tackle like a 20000 stella and 65lb braid would get tiring and frustrating but you are right we're talking 2 very different types of jewie fishing here.

Yeh mate 50lb minimum if your fishing a heavy system with monster fish land based.... I have a mate who fishes 80lb and still hets dusted more frequently than he lands them.... also makes it harder if your fishing off a large breakwall with 3-5 m drop to the water. ... what big placcys you going to be using????
