Windows Movie Maker Alternatives.

I've just created another masterpiece and Movie Maker is sucking my will to live.

First it let me complete the project complete with inspirational tunes and training montages and slow-mo footage of me running up a stair case. Then, as I'm saving it in HD 1080, a message comes up saying I dont have enough memory.

Then its starts telling me it cant recognize audio files - then it just says there is "a problem" and we will notify you if it gets fixed.

So I say bugger it - I've done it once I can do it again and start from scratch. It lets me get a 1/4 of the way through before some of the tools like "Split" stop working. Then it crashes again and again and again.

Is there a windows compatible movie making program out there that doesnt have these problems.

Or should I just wait and see if it fixes itself.

Are you running windows 7, same thing was happening with me it was so unstable to the point where eventually it wouldn't even load.
I upgraded to windows 8 which is ok except if you want to connect any apple device.

i had the same Problem YD1
i had enough of it, left it for 4 or so months and then tried it again and it was working, so i got no idea how it got fixed
i also found it helped if i didnt click too many things at once
and waited a while after every thing i did

Yep running windows 7 and only loading footage from a Nikon Point and shoot camera.

Yeah I might try re-making it in several pieces and working slow - I've had similar experiences with it suddenly working a few weeks later.

I do work pretty fast in the editing department so I will take it easy

You could torrent a few programs. Not 100% legal though. Or buy a program and support the makers.

Try clearing your cache memory mate, otherwise I recommend... Cyberlink Powerdirector. Great easy to use program. I use it to edit my family videos. If a daft person such as me can use it surely you can too. Here's my first video I ever edited, easy done and works a treat:

Cleared out the cache memory - no good

Very nice - I'll look into it - There are a few key features I need.

Trimming scenes - add tunes - cut, copy and paste scenes - distort background - and variable speed fast forward and rewind.

As long as its got that I dont mind shelling out some bucks. Thanks for the hints and tips

BFL, I'm no expert and am only regurgitating what others have told me, because I asked a similar question last term.

IT guy at school reckons Windows Movie Maker is the best free software and the PC just needs to be optimised (more memory usually).

My brother (PC idiot) uses something called Kate's Toolkit (apparently).

Nerdy kids at school follow MiSCrEANT's advice or use one of these;

Lightworks very cool, techie interface and requires you to read the user manual

Movica, that's all I know.

Wondershare Editor, most nerdy kid uses this, about $60 I think but can be found for less than $10 when they are promoting an upcoming newer version.

My son says he has used Powerdirector at Uni, then he grunted and went back into his cave

Try system restore to most recent windows update ...and save your project every 10 mins!!!, or every 2 mins in the case of movie maker....
