Angry Sunline problems

Anyone else had problems with dodgy sunline? I have had two bad lots now, one 6lb and current one 8lb, which were great when I first got it, but after 2-3 months use I could break the braid in my hands The first bad lot I got I thought might have been a one off occasion, so tried some more but got the same problem

I have had many issues with a number of sunline braids snapping in my hands. Some with brand new spools too, as a result I have sunline castaway just sitting at home never used as I have not had a good experience with it overall.

Which product are you having issues with?

The only Sunline branded line I could break with my hands is Small Game FC...

That had a 1.5lb rating (#0.5).

I think you've got bad luck. You should try something else then. Varivas if you like buying overseas.

Possibly send an email to Ej Todd man, they are the distributors for Australia and should be able to sort something out for you!

Sorry it's the green super pe. I can understand one lot breaking, I thought fair enough, just a dodgy lot, every brand has them, but the second lot Grrr. I will send an email to them, thanks for the recommendation. I'm heading to Nelson tomorrow for the weekend so now I have to buy some more braid or risk busting off some fish.

I quite often hear of this... and quite often its the knots that are the issue.

I had a problem with fireline where I could tie an overhand knot and snap it like cotton never used it again. Had no probs with Sunline PE and have been using it for a couple of years now.

I've used sunline for a while now, one spool of Sunline Super 8LB is atleast 3 years old and it is still fine. Started using Braid 5 recently and it is a very nice braid, not as thin as the Super PE but still a very nice braid.

Make sure your guides are fine and always wind the braid on under pressure very important process when it comes to line management.

Cheers

I am currently using some 12lb sunline castaway (the pale blue line) and have had problems with it snapping at the leader knot. It may be my knots but sitting down to tie a heap of leaders on it is only the sunline which gives me grief. Tried fgs, slim beauty's, then settled on an Albright. Had no problems with my other spools of Toray though.

I pulled off about 2-3m of braid before tying the knots too. How long should the braid last on the spool and how should it be rinsed at the end I the session? I run the spool (line only) under warm water.

Sorry for the hijack

I lost a unit of a fish 2 weeks ago when 20lb castaway randomly snapped. The fish took line out to a point on the spool that hadn't been exposed before and it just popped. Very disappointed

Amazing!! - Im not affiliated with anyone and have been using a number of Sunline products for several years now. These include super pe for light saltwater spinning in 10-20lb, castaway and my personal fav, rockfish in .04 and .06.
I also prefer to use Vhard as a fluro leader and have it in various diameters.
Always found Sunline to be very consistent and never had a problem what so ever - at least none that that couldn't be put down to line management and knots.
I also use Toray and Varivas lines without any problems.
I guess bad batches can occur - talk to your supplier.
Cheers Paul
