impoundment barra rods

Hi guys I'm chasing ideas on a couple of baitcaster rods for fishing peter Faust dam chasing barra. 1 will be for 30lb braid and 1 for 50lb braid cost doesn't matter to much just needs to be capable of fishing big barra lures and tight drags.

What are you doing with it? Casting and retrieving or trolling?

I dont troll so I won't even bother commenting as its not relevant but casting wise I run an NS Ones Barra Special, 6' and 5-10kg I also run an oldie which is a Strudwick Hardbaitz Series, 5'6 5-8kg. Lastly I run a Duffrods BigStix 3-5kg with a 3000 Brnzino running 20lb.

I run 20lb on 2 of my combos and 30lb on the other. I have other combos here which i take too but they are very similar to these. I don't use 50lb there throughout winter but in Summer I do occasionally.

If you are heading there in the next couple of months I wouldn't even bother. The fish have already shut down from the water temp. Its super cold and the fish are super sluggish…

Was there 2 weekends ago and it was pretty slow going, got one fish and a couple of dropped fish for two days solid. Few mates were there last week and one doughnutted and the other got one fish at 98cm.

Im sticking to offshore for the winter!

My Daiwa TDX 6-12kg is probably my favorite Barra stick and run 30lb through it, casts big lures no dramas and plenty of nuts to play with on good fish

A loomis BCR 804 GLX would fit your bill nicely. Plenty of power but nice and light so you can cast all day without feeling like your wrist is going to fall off.

Loomis cbr756 might also be worth a look if you're wanting to target the big girls

I have this rod as well, It's a ripper for trolling with the slower action and has a heap of power.

The rod is going to depend on the style of fishing and lures your going to be using. Trolling, casting hard bodies, slow rolling slickies or plastics.

The rods I use are 10-20lb, definitely don't need anything heavier than that and definitely don't need to run braid over 30lb. Your leader is the only thing that will change depend on where your fishing, 40-60lb.

My biggest 124cm barra from Faust was on a 6' 6-12lb samaki vamp and Quantum EXO 200 spooled with 20lb 832 and 50lb leader.

macca64, look into Megabass Orochi X4 F6-72X4 'Destruction'.

It is my big barra hunting rod. Casts well from 3/8 oz up to 3 oz. It has a great tip section for casting, light and heavy. Double footed stainless steel guides all the way.
