Formosa 455 Side Console or other deep V hulls

Hi all,

I’m looking to change my tilt steer 420 Busta (420 Dory) to either a side console or centre console. I’ve never ridden in either of them, and have read options that people suggest a side console is unstable due to the driver sitting on one side of the boat. However, i guess it depends on the boat and how you set it up.

Now I’m looking for a crossover boat, that can be used in lakes and rivers but more frequently in the bay for about $25k with reasonably deep sides.

Was thinking of a Quintrex Renegade (side console) but the Formosa Classic 455 (side console) for simular money seems like a much better package but could be under powered with a 60hp Suzuki. (with 2 – 3 people on it)

I’m fixed on a Aluminium boat, and a 4 stroke.

Would like to hear other peoples opinion what other deep V hulls are out there and could be recommended.

Bluefin wildcat , nothing unstable going on here.
Renegade is a good light boat, the Formosa will be heavy but strong. Talk to the guys at geelong boating they sell both.
Mako craft......we'll they say if you have nothing good to say don't say anything......

I just picked myself up a 2002 formula 15 with a 2010 60hp, its an ex tiller steer converted to centre console. A days labour at a boat builder to fix up a couple of minor delaminations in the floor and a small bit of soft wood around the bildge hatch. then and half a day removing 4 million stickers the previous owner decided to stick everywhere I have a pretty capable boat for $10k less than your budget. I originally wanted to build one from scratch and did a heap of study but this came up at around half what it'd cost me to build one in the same spec albeit brand new. Worth looking at if you can find another, the haines 445f/formula 15 are widely considered the best all round small hulls.

Ive got a Blue Fin Predator which is 4.5m. I stumble around in it like a drunk footballer and it hardly moves. Its a plate hull so reasonably heavy. I actually have a fear of water (go figure!) and I feel quite relaxed in it. I wouldnt stress too much about being unbalanced. Buy a good quality boat and you will find the manufacturer has probably though of this themselves.

My old man has a 420 SC renegade, suzi 40 4 stroke.

Not a bad boat, nothing bad to say at all, it's very deep.

Would max out the HP if budget permits but with an electric plus battery on the bow and a couple if water bottles to stabilise port bow when solo it was a great but for under 20k (minus electric and sounder).

Frequently get out in a 440 renegade was a sc but the owner wanted more fishable room so took it out for a tiller..... 60hp yamaha 4 stroke things has plenty of power and rails really nicely around cornerss... it is loaded with minn kota and two up majority of the time...

Is good value if ya want a boat that can do a bit more of everything

Ducky, awsome buy you got there. I was keeping an eye on that thing, was listed at 17k originally and he kept dropping the price if it was in NSW I would have been all over it, top boat mate enjoy!
