Surf rod?

Does anyone know a good surf rod under $80 that is rated 4-6kg or the like and around 9ft? I will use it mainly for salmon and snapper. Preferably graphite and can use it with lures and bait.
I am also wondering about a reel,3000 or 4000 with a fair bit of line capacity, and around $70.

Im in the same boat. I noted that the Berkley Attack Combats in heavier and longer sizes for pretty cheap. Wow those daiwas look good.

Has anyone used one if the aird rods? I picked one up in a tackle shop and it was abit to heavy for my likings, but they look super good and would be great for casting out slugs.

There is a recent vid going around of the blue steel of a guy catching a small marlin on 8lb - very clear in the vid of a wilson blue steel rod. My only gripe is that the blue steel rods come with Fuji aluminum oxide rings where the last series of Wilson 'LCS' came fitted with alconites which are far better for braid!!

Any shimano rod denoted with the 902 model is a good rod for surf flicking, I have the shimano ssv v2 and it's mated with my 6000 FG sustain and it's a match made in heaven; a dream to cast with on the beach!

No no, the old aluminium oxide version! They have a light steel blue look to them, whereas alconite is a deep dark silver pewter look (huge difference). Alconite is far harder and braid resistant than the fuji aluminium oxide.

As this link states alconite is the next step up from aluminium oxide 'hardloy', which the steel blue rods employ to keep costs down. The lcs series were unpopular due to cost amongst other things...

I use a an 8"6' Daiwa sea bass 3-6kg for flinging small metals and plastics into the surf with a daiwa 3000 on it. Nice and light, handles nice and around 160 for the rod. Also comes in a 9 and 1/2 foot model.. check it out.

I just started using a cheap ebay carbon surf rod. It was $36 delivered to my house! So Im not expecting great things. But, I gave it a run this morning and pretty happy. Very light, balances nicely with my Ci4 4000. Today I was throwing Rapala XR10 and caught a couple of nice bream off Clarkes Beach Byron. I was targeting tailor, jew, flattys, but the bream smashed the xr10! Its a 10cm lure so I was pretty surprised by that.

The rod is Sambo 10ft carbon surf off ebay. Its rated 5-8kg but I would call it 5kg max. Basically the listing makes it sound a lot stronger than it is.

Im enjoying it. I'll wait til Ive landed some decent fish on it and then chime in with a report. Its light and feels well balanced. I have also used the 12' version. It was really top heavy.

Atm its throwing Rapala xr10's a good distance and Im targeting tailor, jew and big bream.
