jewy jewls

Ive been thinking.
ive been chasing jews alomost every weekend since mid febuary and havnt got anything besides some MONSTER stingrays and a couple port jacksons.

so when i do have my first (legal) jewfish capture i want to have something to rememeber it. Ive watch a bloke down the breakwall remove the "jewels" out of the head of a fish and i would like to do this.

Would i have to preserve them in something or do i boil them?? ive got no clue with this sorta thing.

any help guys??

cheers whiting wrangler :P

if you want them to disintegrate.... boil them.... if you want them sitting on a pedestal as a murder trophy, just remove them, give them a rinse and they'll be fine.

Then dont just hack into its skull like your chopping wood. Be gentle.

Photos make a decent memory? Get a gopro!! Videos even better!!
What about a special brag mat that you mark and date for every one you catch?

Don't you think the Jews have suffered enough persecution?

Seriously though, you might actually come to regret missing out on an amazing, liberating feeling of satisfaction that you'll get as you watch that first jewie slowly swim away exhausted after a memorable man v fish battle.

Theres no right way though! Just hope you catch one mate!!

i wont just hack at it. when ive been down the breakwal acouple of local blokes hav sorta taken mee under their wing and shown me basically how to fish for them and care for them after you catch them. i have now wactch 3 or 4 blokes take the jewels out of their fish they have caught.

yes a gopro would be a great idea but its not in the budget at the moment.

yes i know the stocks hav been affected greatly but its a fish i have been putting alot of effort and time into some of the trips have been up to 6 hours just trying to get enough baits. every part of the fish will be used eg. food, the frame will be used as burley etc. it wont be wasted.

and its not the best thing for the fish to hav been gaffed then released.
if it looks like it deffinatly undersize i will crawl down the rocks and mouth gaff it.

No justification needed mate. Its your catch, your fish! Im sure somebody will correct me (thats what the internets for) but i think they're a relatively fast grower anyway compared to things like bream.

I'd rather release these fish. First or not, getting it for a trophy to show ppl two ear bones is kind of a waste of time. Nobody wants to see the otoliths before seeing a picture or video of the actual fish anyway. my 2cents

just got this pic off the dpi website

if it happen to be undersize:
-mouth gaffed
-hooks would be remove correctly
-line cut close to the hooks as possible if hooked deeper in the mouth
-would swim the fish till the fish is ready to be released.

I release 98% off my fish thats my choice. Your the one spending your time and money chasing Jew, you do whatever you like with the big one when he comes along. In my experience the ones that are first to sook about this sort of stuff are the dudes who can't catch em. You wanna knock the fillets off knock em off enjoy a fresh feed of fish with ur family. Im sure there are other major factors in the Jew numbers other than you taking a few fish mate.

i do release 90% of the legal fish i catch, which are mainly bream. i only take them when the grandparents are seeking a feed of fish. and they have been on my back for a good feed of fish for quite a while

No offense intended with my reply earlier. You do what you want with the fish. I dare say your doing something really wrong if you've been using fresh bait and seen zero results. Have you checked out what the other people on the breakwall are doing? Maybe you might see something that's causing them and not you to get the jews, and again, that's my next 2cents. I don't chase them with bait but only on (non-gulp) plastics and it's been a good start to the year for me already.
