Beach fishing with braid
Hi lads, just been doin a bit of beach fishing and I have a question or 2.
When you use braid do you run it to the swivel and then run mono or some other type of leader from there? If so what type of knot do you use to ty the braid to the swivel? Does the sinker fray the braid? Thanks Trev |

I use an fg knot braid to leader then a float stopper or small split shot on the leader to fix the running sinker. I don't let the sinker run on the braid.

I've been using a 10lb braid setup on a 9 foot Nexave and I just use a running bean to the hook. Casts a mile. I just tie leader to braid without swivel this way. I use a bead (either red or glow) between the sinker and hook so it doesn't wear the leader, and I'd do the same if the sinker was behind the swivel instead.
On my larger setup I usually use a paternoster rig, so no dramas with the sinker, but this rig I do run a swivel, so I can break at the leader most of the time - swivel ensures I have maximum knot strength joining the braid to the leader. Other than the paternoster knot, the only other knot I use is the double looped uni to join the leader to braid, and to join braid and leader to swivel.

for running sinkers I use the little red plastic things with the metal clip and use star sinkers with the swivel in. Have no drama with the braid fraying then. Braid straight to a swivel.

I prefer a paternoster or a pulley rig than a running sinker setup, for the surf.
