Rods explained

Hi guys,

I was prancing around a tackleshop today checking out some new bits and pieces and having a chat when a bloke came over and asked what makes a good rod and which one he should buy?
Dont know why he asked me this, but consequently my brain started to over heat and melt down as there are so many different things to look for in a rod.
I'm pretty much all over reels, inside and out, but not rods as much.
In the end, i said you have two options, go ask the sales person and hope they know their pooh and point you in the right direction or go home and check out this:

http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/guides/rodselection.html

In the end, i dunno what he ended up doing, i buggered off for fish and chips.

I just like the info contained in the link and thought it might help out a little

Cheers

Nagz

I think that is a great article that really sums up a lot of terms that people may not quite understand.

Advising people about what rod to get can be an exercise in futility as it really boils down to personal preference in the end, we can only make suggestions based on what we like and general guidelines.

I guess so long as you didn't recommend a Samurai its all good, those blanks are rubbish

i'm more concerned with people not knowing what to loom for as opposed to what brand they should use

People look at specs for reels and theyre pretty self explanatory, but rods can be tricky

Ive felt all the blanks and couldn't say i liked any, the grips arn't my favourite either haha. But this is probably due to the fact that I have always used x-fast rods for plastics, so any slower rod feels unnatural and its not an indication of the rods at all.
Thats probably a huge part of rod selection that people don't consider as much, a persons foundation in lure fishing definitely will play a big part in what they use.
